Baby Dragonflies or...?

Hey guys,

I have tons of dragonflies around, especially right after watering. Love em, they eat little flies all day and even pounce on hoppers. They also look beautiful in many colors. Now I've seen this thing (see pics). Is that a baby dragon, a moth or maybe a crane fly? Don't want to get cutworms and I'm spraying for them, just would hate to kill my baby dragons if that's what they are.

Thanks a lot!

Thanks squiggly! I browsed around and looked for more pictures. The bulgy head/buggy eyes makes me think dragon, too. I'll try to get some more "live" pics.

Thanks again!

To the best of my knowledge dragonflies go through a nymph stage, which is aquatic, and during which you have the best chance of being nailed by one should you be mucking around in a bunch of aquatic plants where they go hunting. I would venture a guess and say this is a small species, but an adult specimen on dragonfly *if* it is a dragonfly. There's something not quite 'dragonfly' about it that I can't quite place my finger on. Oops! squished it tryin' to put my finger on it. Sorry.

Have you tried what's that bug dot com?

Could be a damselfly, which is basically a tiny dragonfly.

Thanks again guys. Great link to the bugs website, Seamaiden. Can't really post my alive pics over there, leaves are a bit too prominent :)

Got some good shots, siting on leaves, what you think?

I thought those live shots look like lacewings. :)

Yes, I experienced this amazing thing in our Hemp crop as well. A swarm of large dragon flies raced to the crop. It was a beautiful and amazing site.
