Ballast Wattage

I just bought a digital ballast and the tag says 600W but the person I bought it from says it's a 1000W and even hooked up a 1000W bulb and it seemed to work fine.He said it was tagged wrong and he has been using it with a 1000W bulb for awhile.Is there any way to test it to be sure of the wattage?

i would say open it up to look at its guts inside if able... a 1000watt bulb will light at 600 watts.......
