So I have been collecting and growing bamboo for many years. I don't have a book or article to reference. Bamboo is in the grass family, It only goes to seed (depending on the strain) rarely. If you have a bamboo that you like and you want more, separate the plant into clumps with 5 or 7 canes each, get plenty root mass and plant it in good loamy soil. first year it does nothing, second year it come up small, third year it will leap up big depending on how much room the roots have. A good solid stand of bamboo can take 4 or 5 years to grow in (From small plants) . I can't imagine why you would clone bamboo, it would be like cloning your lawn but on a large scale.
