Indica was always called the drug species by pharma companies when they legally produced meds from it. Carl Linnaeus named it Sativa which simply means cultivated for fibre,seed etc and people selected for narrow leaves as cultivars because they gave the best fiber etc. Lamarck named it Indica,meaning coming from India and used primarily for it's ability to make THC and psychoactive properties but it can also be used as hemp to a degree,some may have escaped and hybridized. India has many narrow blade plants which are still indica.This is in most cases,some plants mutate and can go the other way,sometimes just by changing the environment..I agree with AG never having wide leaves .
