Beginner Outdoor In Ground Grow

The thing with outdoor growing is catching a bug infestation early and know how to remedy it. Its best to just spray your pest management solution throughout the grow until week 2-3 flower. Sometimes bugs can look like a nutrient deficiency or some other issue.

Just a lil update.
Few days shy of 7 weeks, the girls seem to be doing well.
With the LST I was doing I think I was doing it wrong and trying to keep all the branches growing horizontal so I let go of them all and then only trained the tallest ones to keep them even with the others.
The 4 Mains seem to all be about level so I guess we’re good. Thinking I’ll do a Scrog net later on, I’ll have to see when to implement that.

I was taking a soil moisture reading yesterday and broke a small branch so I decided to defoliate all the lower branches.
I’m not sure if I should keep the lowest branches with the small bud sites or are they wasting energy?

Just did a feeding this morning with ArmorSi silica, FF CalMag, Big Bloom, and Kelp Me Kelp You. Also introduced Grow Big on Sunday but skipped it for this feeding. Been using Grok AI to advise me on the whole operation and what and how much nutes to give. SE5000 has been at 50% prly around 20” above canopy approx 500-600ppfd per Photone app.

Should I Scrog them? Is it too late?
It’s been 51 days since the seeds were planted, and I’m calling my Veg phase when they got planted into the 5 gal pots which is 4 weeks today.

If this was my grow I would be tying the taller ones down a bit. This will spread out your growth covering more area. It will also condense the thickness of your grow. Most folks shoot for a 12-16 inch canopy at this point because light degradation down in the grow will not really allow buds to develop well but will rob energy from the higher tops of the plant. Let me get some old photos up.

Here is veg close to your growth. Plants are thick and tall.
The next one the taller runs were pulled down. You run a wire from your pot and loop around the one you want to move down. As it moves down it moves in an arc spreading the plant out horizontally

The next one shows how setting up the flat top prepares you for level flowers

Now I do a net but I do it above the grow not level. This allows me to pull flowers up and move them directionally by wiring them sideways

By moving flowers up you get a more balanced canopy. This does make the grow in place but most grows end this way from the 60 journals I read over a 3 month period.

I was out tying them down and spreading them out, then sat back to have a toke and gaze upon them, then checked and saw your comment about doing just that. Lol
I like the idea of having the net above the canopy!

If you have a tall runaway flower you can manipulate the top to the outside of the light pattern. I was able to keep a consistant 65k lux from week 5 flower to the end on the majority of top flowers. By week 4 flower any buds and bud starts were culled if they were below 35k lux. I never pulled 1 green fan off this grow I let the plant fade them then pulled.

I got them trained to where they were all flat on top, then went ahead and threw a Scrog net on them.
It’ll suck not being able to move them anymore. Also kinda worried how much the 2 sativas will stretch compared to the Indica. I have another net I can add if need be.

Did some defoliation and cut off the 2 sets of the lowest branches. That hurt to do but I figured they’d never make it to the canopy and would just use up energy.
I wrapped the bottoms in wet paper towel and put them in a ziploc in the veggie drawer of fridge. Maybe one day I’ll see if they’ll work as a clone if not oh well.

I’ll let the plants recover for a few days then plan to flip em to flower.

Well I don’t know what’s going on with this ole Godfather OG Indica. The tops of the mains are splitting where it meets the main stalk.
The 2 Durban Poison Sativas look fine. Don’t know if I got too aggressive with LST or what but nothing that can be done now. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. Couldn’t find anything about it online either.

Do you have stuff growing outside that you tend? If it spreads possibility of a fungal infection or it's healing and got dried and scaly. Starts. affecting leaves you would prolly want to quarantine that plant. Slight splits can allow infections in even a healthy plant.

Here's what is happening, the weight of the plants above each branch is causing the main stem to split. One way to avoid that in future grows is to leave a nub of the mainstem at topping ... like maybe a 1/2 inch or approximately 13mm.

@Galgrows I'm not sure ... the OP looks pretty well setup indoors right now.

However for most growers, May 15th should be fine for planting outdoors if premature flowering is of concern. The daylight lengthens pretty quickly until summer solstice hits.

He started out with delusions of growing outdoors in South Texas! He was talked out of that real quick! Lol! Keep an eye on it,Tex! If it looks like the splitting is getting worse, you will have to tie them up to reduce the pressure on the joint! Looks like you’re doing OK!

I prly only left about a 1/4”

Yeah, sorry. I wanted to grow outdoors, but Oldchucky and CaptSpaulding talked sense into me. Pretty much if the heat or high humidity didn’t do them in, then the pests would. That and also not too legal in these parts lol. And this week it’s starting to get hot AF with high humidity.

I tried to change the title name of this thread but had no luck.

1 week into Flower!!
I’m pretty much out of room on the Scrog net, there is one spot I can tuck some more into once they grow more.
The rest if it I’ll prly just let them do what they want.
Day 21 of Flower I plan to do the heavy flower defoliation. There’s already a lot of fan leaves under the canopy that started dropping.
Been watering with nutes every other day since flipping to flower. Used Grow Big and tapered it off into the first week to give some N for stretch. Will prly cut it out now and do ArmorSi, CalMag, Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom, KelpMeKelpYou, Recharge.
Got a Midea Cube Dehumidifier and it’s been helping dial in the VPD.
