Benefits of a flip box?

Could someone please explain the benefits of a flip box for me? I see how they operate but, whats the benefit? Is it basicly the same as using a light mover like a sun circle?

u can run two lights off one ballast in a flip flop. so u can run 2 flower rooms with one set of ballasts

So does that mean only 1/2 the lights r on in each room at a time,or do u light 1 room for 12 hrs then the other?
