So surfing around bud wash teks i see different ratio of water to hydrogen peroxide used and was wondering if that makes a big difference if yoru main purpose is to kill any mold spores along with washing. i see one cup peroxide to 5 gallon bucket, in another tek i see 1 part peroxiide to 3 parts water and in another 1 part peroxide to 4 parts water.... If anyone can shed some light on this i would really appreciate... 👽

I had the same question when I started bud washing. Recommendations on the web are all over the place. To keep it simple i use 1 cup for all ingredients and am happy with the results. 1 bucket with 1 cup h2o2, 1 bucket with 1 cup each lemon juice and baking soda, and 2 rinse buckets. Works well and easy to remember.

What % H2O2?

Why do you wash buds?
Outdoor grows get very dirty. Dead bugs, bug poop 💩, mold and fungus spores (actual mold gets cut out), BT spray, foliar feeding of compost/casting tea, and just regular dirt and dust. Meant to post before and after pics earlier but posted two before pics, oops. This is from 1 autoflower. Hard to see but a lot of fly and moth wings and a couple dead bugs. I've become a firm believer in bud washing over the last few years. Doesn't affect the final product if done right. I've even started washing my indoor grows minus the peroxide bucket to get off most of the cat hair, shit gets everywhere. Also I grow in a greenhouse so my plants don't even get rained on.

If your purpose for washing outdoor bud is to clean out the dirt and debris, it works pretty well. There's a real difference in water color between before and after several washes.

What bud washing won't do is fix fungal infections.

From a fast search it seems to have sporicidal properties, i soaked the buds for 1 min instead of 30 sec in the H2O2 to help in that direction.
I don't believe 3% is sporicidal, which is the standard strength sold in health supply section of a US big box store. Stronger concentrations would likely be.

I am going to dry in a tent, so after washing my buds, can I just shake them off and hang them in my tent with a fan and humidifier?
I usually hang them to drip dry in my shop for an hour or so and then move them to the drying tent but going straight into the tent should work as long as you have an exhaust fan to exchange the humid air.

It does not kill fungus inside the bud but it does kill the ones on the surface and spores and washes away a lot of the mold. For botrytis, it removes the fuzzy part, it dissolves like cotton candy even when using a highly diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide to water ratio (I use a ratio of 1:10, you really dont need much). When it comes to oidium it washes away all the white stuff. Still not recommended to consume it but if youre gonna do it or make hash out of it, it does help.

To shed a bit more of light. The dangerous part of smoking weed with mold is not the mold per se but the spores. A spore can get caught in your lung and cause you a lung infection. Since hydrogen peroxide destroys most of the spores that risk is lowered a lot. Usually your body can combat the infection thats why many people who smoked molded weed has not caught anything despite the fact that they surely inhaled spores, its mostly people who have vulnerable lungs. The risk is always there though, youre only reducing it by a lot.
