Yeah, I’ve read that 90% of the people that get bit by rattlesnakes do so and fucking with them! Usually alcohol related! Lol! My hearing is so bad that the dogs have to alert me when I’m out walking them! Can’t hear that frequency for shit! But we go on our separate ways! I’ve got nothing against them! But boars and feral hogs die on site! I do have something against them! L O L

Great that this thread is being kept alive by others with a passion for growing and love for nature.

This morning i finally saw the badger, just a few meters away, close to my neighbours chicken, was just lying there, not afraid at all.
Seems to be an old one, grey hairs.
Glad it hasnt come back to my garden...

Many people in my area conplaining about wild boar, they can be very destructive as well, i had a friend with a garden and no fence, she soon learned that was not possible.
Every week a family of wild boar would come and destroy everything.

Can hardly blame them, all the natural predators have been killed by us humans, there used to be bears, wolves and lynxes around here but all are gone now, only some left in the mountains in the north of Spain.

Thank you. I'd stay in the woods and never come out, if I could.

My nickname used to be honey badger. 🙃 Absolutely love them.

Spanish badger is smaller, but just as smart. The beetle larva you had in your hand in the last picture, is one of their favorite meals. Probably after those, rooting around. Sorry about your plants.

We have done the same with our environment here. Each species plays a roll. When one is killed off from an area, it then upsets the balance of everything.

Yep those larvae are surely a delicacy for the badger and i got many of those in the soil.
Thats why i think the badger will return some day.
Luckily we had a few rainy days, so all plants with damaged roots had some time to recover, in the end i only lost 1 plant.
Sun is just coming back and its getting hot again.

Honey badger sounds like a great nickname !

Excellent news about the plants. Glad there wasn't more damage.

Found a visitor last night on one of my sunflowers. She's a native one o don't see often because the invasives are huge and dominate the scene usually. I'd say she is looking for a place to lay her egg case. She was still there this morning.

Been obsessed with them since I was a child. Even had an egg case accidentally hatch in my house. Had no idea what the Styrofoam-like thing I found on a tree limb and brought into the house was, but quickly found out when hundreds of baby mantids were everywhere. Mom wasn't happy, but the cat sure was.

Thank you for this! I did not know there were invasive mantids. Still hate disposing of them, just wish they were a little more inclined to eat their originating country's 'invasive' bugs here. You know like the Japanese and Oriental beetles, and moths.

You're welcome. The Asian and European varieties are much larger than our Carolina mantis. Not sure which invasive, but one of them even eat hummers.

Was trying to feed her an armyworm moth last night and I kept dropping it.

I agree, and hate all the invasive garden destroyers. I'm sure it is more about opportunity with them though. Whatever is around and the easiest to grab. May be a little bit of self preservation at play there too. Some of those insects may fight back. Because their time is so limited, they may go after easier prey that can't harm them.

I never kill any of them, but I will remove egg cases of invasives when I find them in abundance here.

That is so beautiful...

Well i became intruiged by the egg cases ever since i first found one with many ants around it.
Then saw the ants eating the baby mantis that just came out, so i moved the egg case to a better place.
These egg cases seem like a great example of intelligent design, very strong.
