I am gathering materials for my first build, and just wanted feedback from some people with experience before I invested. Since it is my first grow, I didn't want to throw my life savings at it, but still wanted materials and a build that will produce. Just looking for advice on if I'm in the right direction, or what I should consider doing differently.

Veg room: 2' x 2' x 6' room made with a PVC frame & mylar walls, with 100w LED full spectrum light.

Flowering room: 2' x 2' x 6' room made with a PVC frame & mylar walls, with 100w LED full spectrum light.

Mylar material I was considering: https://www.amazon.com/Reflective-Greenhouse-Covering-Blanket-Camping/dp/B09NK14R2Y/
My 2nd-choice for mylar: https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-Horticulture-Highly-Reflective-Mylar/dp/B018VI77QW/

Grow light I was considering: https://www.amazon.com/Spectrum-Greenhouse-Hydroponic-Succulents-Seedlings/dp/B08BFBW72C/

I plan to put an intake at the bottom front of both rooms, and an exhaust in the top back of both rooms. The exhaust fan runs 25% faster than the intake, to create negative pressure (I was told that was ideal).

The idea is 2-3 plants for personal use, clone 2-3 plants at the end of veg, and repeat to keep 2-3 in veg/flower at any given time. But I wasn't sure if 100w is enough for 2-3 plants in a 4 sq ft area? Should flowering have more/less watts than veg, or vice versa? The rooms will be inside the hay loft of a barn, which is actually well-ventilated to prevent mold on the hay.

I prefer something that will give me sleep at night, so I was considering this strain: https://www.growerschoiceseeds.com/...inized/wedding-cake-feminized-cannabis-seeds/

The spaces are likely good for a few plants. I would consider getting stronger lights to be more versatile, and not wanting for more (especially during flowering).

I like having a flower space that's twice the floor space of the veg area. That way, I can veg until the the veg area is completely covered with canopy, move the plants to the flower area, flip the lights to 12/12 and let them stretch. At the end of the stretch, they'll fill the flower area.

Awesome, thanks for the replies. Sounds like I should increase the flower room to 3' x 3' (roughly double the veg room, 4sq ft vs 9sq ft) & increase the light to 200w in the flower room.

Digging the avatar by the way, BiilyBanchan. I'm a short drive from where Popcorn lived, these grow tents are going in the say barn that my Popcorn-inspired still is in. 🤣

Hell yeah! Moonshiners are American AF!

So, 3x3? I'd go with 400w... But I'm hungry like that.

If I up the flowering to 400w, should the veg be 200w? Or is 100w still good for that space?
If it will be used for seedlings/clones/early veg, that may be enough. Flowering will require more for sure, though.

If you can, get lights with a dimmer. You'll be able to adjust light intensity without physically raising or lowering light as much, or at all. Gives a lot more adjustability.

When you get a chance, look into DLI and other cannabis light requirements. I'm sure some others will come along and make some good suggestions.

I'm up that way a time or two each year motorcycle riding, camping, and hunting for shrooms... Blue ridge, smokies... My people came from the Appalachians (eastern Kentucky) in the mid 1800s, and Scotland before that! They moved on to farm in the Mississippi Delta area, and voila... Here I am with muddy Mississippi water in my veins, but my heart and heritage are in these hills. Outlaw to the end!

That light isn't 100 watt. It's 100 watt equivalent, actual draw is 15 amps. You want something closer to a true 100 watt for a 2x2, slightly bigger if you're looking at doing something like a 3x3 for flower.

I grew up in the same area ... in WV, just off the banks of the Pike River (separates WV and eastern Kentucky). But then ended up in western NC, because my dad moved us when I got high school age to avoid me going into the coal mines to get black lung like my uncles. We are Irish-Cherokee. 😂

Oh, interesting. I see that now, in the actual specs. I was just looking at the product description. Good catch, thanks.

Always double check the actual wattage a lot of light manufacturers like to use equivalent wattage. Like when you buy a regular LED or CFL light bulb they give you a number that tells you what size of old school filament style light bulb the new bulb should replace as well as the actual wattage used. Same concept, it's pretty common to overate 10X. So a lot of 100 watt LEDs will be labeled 1000

100 watts @ 120v = .83 amps

100 watt "equivalent" LED would draw even less.

i know it’s hard to see but this plant looked just as good in growth etc growing under a few T5’s as compared to my 1000 watt metal halide..
you can grow beautiful plants fully through veg with T5’s..
