Hey everyone.

I've been enjoying the breeding thread. I am currently working on isolating a heavy citrus phenotype out of alf5. A regular autoflowers strain that has a long history.

Here are two of the 4 girls that survived the really cold weather test.

Have two more seedings growing in the background.

They are in a mix of nftg one shot, mag sulfur, coco, and 2nd year potting soil.

Anywho. Hope I get a male, last few I grew out were ladies.

Keep on breeding.

Hopefully we will see sex in a week. My hopes is #11 is a male.

#6: earthy, spice. Fast growing, long node spacing. Strong stalk. Male?

#7: Mango, sweet, floral. Avg size & growth.

#11: strong citrus smell. Fast growing.

#12: n/a

Ran into some issues. Had to switch to bottle nutes.

#12 has really slow growth. Hopefully it gets going soon.

#7 , #8 & #11 have been topped.

Yah must have been the soil alkalinity. They are bouncing back. Responding well to the topping. Alf is really resistant against pre flowering early due to stress.

I am starting to suspect popping seeds in 4" pots isn't the best method. It feels like the tap root is getting air pruned, and the plant is focusing way too much on root building. Causing the plant to be stretchy, start slow. Need to start them in 1 gallons next time.

#7 is coming back after the 2nd feeding. Thank goodness. Want to breed with this one. She's a trooper. #8 is looking great. #12 is picking up speed after its 1st feeding.

Just using grow big (Green bottle) @ 1/4 strength.

Back on track. I think the filtered water was stripping out Cal from the soil. Causing the alkalinity issues.

I have bred a ton on autoflowers in the past. BTW kudos to you supporting Mandelorian that guy is cool I listened to some of his podcasts on youtube he is very knowledgable with autos.

So with auto-flowers the males will almost always show their sex first. Usually this happens pretty early on if you get close enough and look hard it is very common to see pollen sacks forming as early as 2-3 weeks in. This makes it really nice because they also usually all show at the same time so long as they were all germinated together. I go through my tent and yank all the ones starting to show balls. The females will usually start to show sex 1 to 2 weeks later. This gives you plenty of time to strategize which males to breed with WAY before the females even get started. With some strains the sexual maturity gap between males/females is so far apart that I will do 2 different seed runs. I germinate one batch then 2 weeks later I start the second batch. This way I can line up the timing just right because you want to hit the fertility window perfect with your females. The females from the first batch will be perfect timing and will be ready to fertilize right when the males from the second run start spitting pollen. Contrary to popular belief it has been my experience that the males are usually smaller than the females when dealing with autos. Every time I have bred them the males flower faster and stay shorter than the females. Also it has been my experience that you will have more females than males. If you grow out 10 seeds 2 or 3 will be males. Hope all this insight helps. Pretty soon you will get the hang of it and start creating big beautiful healthy auto seeds so that you can have stock for years to come. I have dozens of auto strains in my seed vault that I have bred at home. Some people say leave the breeding to the breeders but I disagree. You can do it at home and create really healthy stock. Yes, its true that sometimes you will get hermie issues when breeding with certain auto strains but most of the time you don't. If you get banners in your future seed batch just throw them away and try a new cross. usually when i breed autos Im doing a handfull of strains at a time and I ALWAYS get some nice keeper crosses. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Here is a few example photos of some of the Autos that I have bred. All of these pics came from auto seeds that I crossed and everything is outdoor...

Strain: Growers Choice Afghan Auto X Caspers Purple Ducksfoot Auto

Strain: Pyramid Seeds Tutankhamun Auto X Caspers Purple Ducksfoot

Strain: Mephisto Genetics Alien Vs. Triangle X Greenworks Tyrone's Purps

Yah Dan is chill, I talk with him sometimes on IG. I will for sure attempt more crosses later down the road. I just need to get enough seeds to start playing around. Being more aggressive with selection.

Beautiful work man. I am guessing you are reversing for breeding? What lead you down the auto path?

Well I didn't start as an auto guy I evolved into an auto guy. I run regular strains too but I would say I probably harvest more autos overall. This is specifically due to where I live. Although I grow both I prefer outdoor growing and in SoCal we get a TON of sunshine. Its almost like the grow season is too long for growing regular photoperiod strains. I have grown regular strains outdoors started in the spring but they get so dam big that it's just unpractical. I did a grow once started in March. I tried to keep them tamed but they just kept root binding my pots. Started in 5 gallon, then 10 gallon, then 20 gallon, then 30 gallon LOL. They just keep vegging like fucking monsters. By October they were upwards of 10ft tall. The chief of police came to my house and told me to chop them down. Luckily we are in a legal state so I got away with a warning and was able to harvest since they were almost finished anyways.

I have it down to a science now. I can grow outdoors year round here since there is no freeze. This is my schedule...

1st Auto Run: Start March 1st - Harvest around June 15th
2nd Auto Run: Start May 1st - Harvest around August 15th
1st Regular Run: Start indoors around July 1st - Move outdoors to flip - Harvest around end October
2nd Regular Run: Start indoors around September 1st - Move outdoors to flip - Harvest around end December

I have multiple tents in my garage too so sometimes I will run a full indoor run at the same time all this other outdoor stuff is going. I can get 5 harvests a season this way. The plants are smaller but I would much rather have small-medium sized plants than one huge harvest of GIANT trees. That shit is too much work trimming huge trees without any other people to help is a nightmare I still have PTSD and arthritis from that 2017 season LOL

Found a F24T5HO 3k bulb for $8 shipped. Should have that in a week or so.
I need some red spec hitting these plants. These 6400k bulbs just are not great after week 2, IMO.

It just prevents cell elongation.

Yah... Thinking back to when i was growing autoflowers and having great success. I was running a 4200k ( I looked it up on my amazon history) bulb for veg. I would water them every 3 days regardless if they needed it. Not PHing the water correctly. And got killer results.

Maybe its the water source (doubtful), or maybe its the red spec in the veg bulb causing faster growth.

Carebears, alf & anvil are pretty easy to find. Not overly expensive. DC and Oregon elite have them. For reg auto's.
You could always try to reverse your fems and make more fem seeds.

Idk?

1Gal Pots and Under so you don't have to take up so much space to pheno hunt. Its not a contest or comp really. I just need seeds so I can be more self sufficient.

Regulars Auto seeds are like pure gold to me. Its extremely rare to find breeders that release regular stock they all hold it tight to their chests. Over the years I have gobbled up as much of it as I can find online. I currently have a decent selections of regular auto seeds in my library so if any of you guys are interested just PM me. I don't mind mailing some stuff out for free in the hopes of getting some of the crosses back in return. Im always looking to diversify my auto collection

Kind of frustrated its going slow, but hasnt sexed yet. Still has time to grow.

Hoping the 3500k bulb helps.
