QUINCY, MI (WTVB) - A house in Branch County’s Butler Township was heavily damaged by fire yesterday but the pot inside didn’t go up in smoke. Quincy firefighters found smoke and flames showing at the 2 story wood frame structure when they reached the scene around 11:15 am on Bidwell Road near Boone Road. No one was home at the time. The blaze was blamed on a defective wood burning stove that the occupant of the home had started up for the first time for the season yesterday.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Department was alerted that marijuana had been discovered in the basement and deputies following up on the incident said 6 pounds of pre-packaged grass was found along with a number of plants. No arrests were made Monday as the investigation continues and charges are likely to be filed at a later date. No injuries were reported because of the fire.

The Allen and Litchfield Fire departments assisted Quincy firefighters. The damage loss to the house and contents was estimated at $100,000.
