So is anyone experiencing flowering NOW from the smog that is caused by Canadian Wildfires... I'm talking to licensed growers and they are battling "pre-flower" in July?!?... not 1 but 3 different licensed farms in NY State....

Anyone else battling this issue?

Im in Massachusetts my plants aren't flowering (besides the few with auto genetics) only pre-flower on some which is Normal for me to start seeing those around now anyways.

Im a bit south on the 38th but last week of july and 1st week of august is when i started flowering last year. My outdoor blueberry is in probably the most juiced up preflower ive seen and will be flowering hard next week. Only been growing 3 years tho

JK,

Do you think the plants are “smelling” the smoke and thinking we better get flowering because smokey fires is about to consume us? Doubt it. I’m in NY filled with smoke and the outdoor plants are not flowering yet and not affected.

You had me laughing (in a good way!) However just hear my theory out? I believe some spots in the state are worse than others... that being said effective sunlight is not penetrating the smog/smoke/sute...causing the plants to flower early because not relieving strong enough light for extended amount of days to weeks?

Just a theory and that's why I posted this cause it was 3 different farms under an "umbrella" at 3 different locations.... all dealing with same problem

Not bad, JK. But I doubt smoke can change the photoreceptors that serve to register light quality then shift from veg to flowers. It’s a red/ far red receptor that has major role influencing plants development.

Thanks for that as that is a good article...so what could cause 3 different farms in different locations with different strains and different feeding regiments to cause all plants to flower early like that? I get that it's the reds...but maybe that's the only light to "penetrate" walking to work daily visibility was a ¼ mile on a lot of days... between the fires and solar flares maybe stronger reds are being emitted..

Again that's why I wanna know if any others in NY state or surrounding areas were affected like this....

Too many variables to figure out how 3 different farm locations all went into flower early outdoors

Jk,

I am in Smokey NY about 65 north of the City in the HudsonValley. My crop is not in any hurry to flower.

If you, Google, the effects of wildfire smoke on cannabis, there are a bunch of articles pertaining to the Cali wildfires a few years ago. Seems to be some anecdotal evidence that it can cause premature flowering. But most of them focused on the effect of the ash and whatever raining down on the buds. Made it extremely difficult for the unfortunate to pass the state mandated tests to sell it on the market. A couple of years ago I was out, shaking ash off of my plants and had a terrible year. But they didn’t flower early. But they didn’t trich up much either. But I had shitty genetics and was still learning how to deal with growing in this hell hole! So I am a little hesitant to blame it on the smoke. I think this would be a good one for Bruce Bugbee to look into.

Anybody that grows weed or other plants for that matter should check out some of Bruce bugbees stuff on YouTube! There’s a lot to be learned there. Just my opinion.

Well I'd have to think that smoke would be able to reduce the light the plant is getting (especially at sun up and sundown) enough that the plant thinks it is later in the year than it really is considering that in the past large volcano eruptions (like the one that buried pompeii) have been known to block out the sun across the world for long long periods of time completely killing crops on the opposite side of the world not just making them flower early. so if you are living close enough to the wildfires that smoke and soot are blocking the sky for an extended period of time it makes sense that the plants would behave like they are getting less sun then normally at this time of year.
