Anyone tried this or know if it can be done? you can dim 1000's down so why not just use a 600 ballast, longer arc tube right?

No I don't believe this would work at all. Even if it did work the ballast would only be 600w, and the 1000w bulb would only pump out 600w. so why not use a cheaper 600w bulb.

Your pretty harsh. I was asking because if you can run a 600 bulb dimmed to 400 why can't you run a 1000 dimmed to 6? And correct me if I am wrong, the arc tube is longer on a 1000 than a 600?

I've read on another thread that digital ballast's, say a 1000 watt dimmed to 600watts is only drawing 600watts therefore only outputting 600 watts, why can't I put a 1000 bulb in my 600 ballast, if you can run the same bulb on a 1000watt ballast dimmed to 600?

Well try it then. I dont think a 600 has enuf power to fire a 1000 personally. I cant figure out the advantage in doing this. there are many more important things involved in making high grade cannabis than arc tube length. Good luck dont hurt yourself. my money says, your about to waste yours.

No the gases inside the bulb would never build up enough to give you a good spectrum ya dig . a 1000 can run two 600s . If your goal here is to get more bang for your buck dont try reinvent the wheel . The last thing you want is a burnt out bulb 4weeks in or find out the hard way with larfy buds . Either way your burning up power thats not productive . Dimming imho is for hardening off plants and to keep your heat down during a heat wave in the valley . 100% 75% 50% still uses the same amount of juice . Peace
