I am talking yield quality and quantity over the same amount of grow time.
Its meant to be used in a place with cold weather and cheap electricity, so power consumption is not realy an issue.

No.because part of the wattage is used to create ir light.while led doesnt do that
If i remember good cmh 1.6g/w max and leds 3g/w

Metal Halide is the king of veg and stretch. Much better to use LED or HPS for flower tho
Dozens of grow diaries and journals agree however I have noticed that the folks doing this are almost always well seasoned growers with much experience. This also is a big reason for stellar results.

All my LED lights also have IR diodes, so still using wattage to create IR light. Not all LEDs have them though. The option actually makes LEDs more versatile. So many different combinations of diodes and every company still trying to prove their ratio and pattern is the best. 😁

An LED light supplemented with a heater would accomplish the same thing. Probably still use less electricity and give you more control over your environment.

I suspect many of the seasoned growers also formed their opinions on what they think are the best lights before LEDs made massive improvements. My brother fell in that category. He used to grow years ago and swore by MH and HPS. He tried LED, but at that time (maybe 20 years ago) they were pretty much trash and just made for gimmick sales. He never used LEDs again.

LEDs really have come a long way. Even within the last 10 years or so with the transition away from blurple.

you probably have 4 diodes in the whole lamp.hps uses something like 30%.would agree on heater.or use a burner and get co2

Infrared =/= to visible red.

Edit

I may have misinterpreted your post

I think another key factor to take into consideration is which strain you’re growing as well. Some do much better under hps

Also, there are still people out there growing absolute bangers with blurple

My 5 year old lights have 3 dual-chips (so I guess 6 IR diodes). Pretty much spot on. πŸ‘

My new lights have 24 IR diodes. The ratio is similar though. (6/184 or 3.26%) vs (24/588 or 4.08%).

Infrared =/= to visible red.

Haha, no problem. You still state a fact. πŸ€“

Definitely! Every strain has their preference, hell, every seed has their preference. 🀣

I agree, nothing wrong with using blurple. My current grow is using blurple I bought 5 years ago. Well, not true blurple, they are full spectrum, but still use a lot of blue and make all my pictures turn purple. They get the job done and give me good results. 😁
