this is true and little extra perlite is bestBoth look over watered-ewc holds water.
ya it would it holds waterIt's just a local brand of castings from a garden store, I have 30 percent perlite in both and I don't water until they are fully dry. Interesting, the cup with the worm castings is probably twice as heavy a few days after I water compared to the cup without.

me tooNot sure but perhaps you are overwatering the 2 with EWC. I grow with EWC from seed to bud and don't see problems like you are experiencing.
