Hi I’ve been in veg for 11 weeks I tried mainlining this grow with 4 mains on each plant. Should I try defolianting now?

I'd remove all the bottom leaves and sucker branches.

I’m about to tackle this one. I’m thinking the big leaves take them off

You de foliate for 2 reasons 1 to improve airflow 2 to get branches into light, some strains don't mind pruning at all some don't like it and will slow up for a few, go easy and evenly.

#3 make smaller buds that are less likely to mold. The downside is you lose the shade needed to produce the best resin and terps.

I don't see the point off all this defoliation of their solar panels. I'll take off leaves that are blocking bud sites but I like to let the bottom shoots/branches to catch up to the top. With a little bending topping tying down and such you can get big plants with lots of bud sites without eliminating their power supply. This Bubble Bomb girl spent 8 weeks in veg..pic are 1 week into flower

Impressive! 4 plants to harvest in 3 months. Nice....I may have to give that a try, I've always vegged for months and when I don't I get small plants that don't fill my needs. I don't think what I see there would be enough but gees it takes up very little space and double that would do me for 4 months. I have a space that will open up in another month I may just plant 6 - 8 and give short vegging a try......I'm an old fker but I can slowly learn new tricks.

That's 3 plants in 2' x 2'. It will be 6-8 oz. Seed to harvest 3 months. I just clean up the bottoms.

Nice but that's not enough, I'll go through that in 1 - 1 1/2 months. I was having a smoke and thinking about the math ( I thought you had 4 plants) 4x16 = 64 I veg around 64 days I'll get 4 xs the smoke off plants I veg for 64 days than I would off of 16 days veg. Now I don't grow buds as large as you have there very often but I get volume from lower buds I can cook with and depending on the strain they're just about as hard and ready as upper buds ( if they get light) I have the space. I'm now thinking side lights in my flower room to give me bigger better lower buds.

If I vegged 60 days, I could only do 1 plant in my 2 x 4. I like variety, this way I can harvest 2 or 3 small plants every month.

i too used to be of the school of thought that defoliating was unnecessary and detrimental. trying something different this round. now, i'm thinking that school of thought doesn't hold up all that much. immediate benefits I noticed:

1. humidity and temperature easier to maintain
2. significant increase in airflow
3. better penetration to viable budsites that will actually produce instead of dealing with a ton of larf
4. reduced maintenance later in the grow

now, i don't recommend anyone due this that doesn't have their environment dialed. feeding, vpd, lighting, etc all need to be dialed otherwise there is a fat chance your plants are going to end up far too stressed.

this is pre-defoliation:

post-defoliation:

six days later:

Not sure what the impact on yield is going to be, but I'm anticipating positive results compared to last run just because the plants are going to produce more usable bud instead of half decent tops and a bunch of larf that's only good for extracts and edibles. Further, keep in mind this is in rockwool. i wouldn't suggest doing this in soil, the growth rates simply aren't there for this to be a viable technique imo.

Totally depends on your style and the strain. My style would be to have flipped the plant about a week or two before you defoliated and be 2 -3 weeks into flowering by the second pic- no defoliation needed and the plants harvest a month sooner.

When do you consider them in veg for the count of 16 days? It seems everyone has a different answer...and I plan on growing like this, but wanted an idea of when you start counting veg. Thanks!
