If you own a CO2 generator, what type of controller/monitor do you use with it? I am about to purchase a liquid propane CO2 generator, but I can't decide on what type of controller to get with it. Please share your experiences. What model do you have? How do you like it? I've been looking at every controller under the sun, but I really need some first-hand reviews.

I see quite a few models that come pre-programmed to run your CO2 at 1500 PPM. You cannot set it higher or lower, 1500PPM is all it does (Like this model.) I am not a fan of these at all, but I haven't ever really used one. I just do not like not having the ability to manually change the levels of CO2.

I always thought the Sentinel CPPM 4 looked cool, it's all digital and you can set what you want your PPM at with the push of a button. I bought a Sentinel UTC 1 for temp control a few months back. I was not happy with it. All Sentinel boxes are rated for a max of 15 amps, it doesn't matter if they only serve one function or a complete environmental control. The UTC 1 only does temp, is rated for a max of 15 amps but it requires a 20 amp breaker to it's self. Even if what you use on the box doesn't use even use close to 15 amps the box must still be on a 20 amp breaker. I don't have a 20 amp breaker for a 4-5 amp CO2 generator to have to it's own (I really have no idea how many amps a CO2 gen uses. It's probably less than that, only thing electric is the ignition, right?).

Has any one tried a Titan Controls Atlas 3? It appears to only require 5 amps, is quite a bit cheaper, and it appears to be quality (although kind of hard to tell from just a photo). This is the model I am leaning toward. Anyone try this? How about a different Titan Control boxes?

There are also the Harvest Master controllers. But those are very expensive pieces of equipment. They also appear to be complex to me, I don't really understand how they work. I am assuming that it needs to be hooked up to a computer to be set up.

So help me pick out a CO2 controller/monitor and earn my adoration forever. Thanks in advance.

I use a Sentinel CHHC-4 environmental controller and it works bitchin'- right up until stupid me got the remote sensor wet. Not Sentinel's fault. This is an excellent unit and does a lot of advanced functions that you'll find very helpful in setting up and running your CO2 system, whether it's a burner or tank style. It also handles temperature control and humidity- and even heating, should that be necessary. The functions can be set to operate independently or 'interlocked', meaning that if you run a vented room, it will shut off the CO2 burner or tank while the room is being cooled, so you're not wasting money! Best of all, it has a 'fuzzy logic' circuit built into it that helps keep everything on an even keel instead of constantly blasting one item or another. I'm not sure if any ther manufacturers offer that at all, let alone at the price point. I know you can find these units for $650 or so if you dig around, I understand that's pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I have several of Sentinel's products. I'm happy with all of them and I'd recommend them to anyone. If you want to run a lot of amps thru a Sentinel unit, they have a slave box that allows you to do that. Check their website, I think it's called a PXM-1, the 220v model is PXM-2, I think. They want you to run their gear thru a big circuit in case you do want to run the full rated capacity of the unit. If you don't, then you can get away with a 10amp circuit. Otherwise, get a 15 amp breaker and put it in that circuit- making sure, of course, that the wiring is up to the job of handling 15 amps.

high quality inexpensive co2 meter

this is only a meter, but its very accurate. i use these because i can read the co2 in "real time" and make adjustments from there.

http://www.co2meter.com/products/tim10-co2-temperature-humidity-monitor

by the way.... i have no financial interests in this company. this is the meter i have been using for over 4 yrs with no problems, so i feel its a quality product that is inexpensive and worth having.
