Here's what I'm thinking, the other day after making the honey oil, I wanted to see if I can purify it even more by using 91% ISO…. I think it worked? It tasted, smelled and smoked better.
Question for my friends, by dehydrating iso after mixing it with honey oil, dose final product be more pure or potent? If yes, has anyone used Coldfinger Extractor or reflux system?
Thanks

can you strain it? I think straining it really cleans it up or so I've read.

Dehydrating the iso? Do you mean evaporating the iso after mixing it with minimal solvent? This is a crude recrystallization and is used to remove impurities and clean up the product.

A soxhlet or cold finger is more for continuous, recycled extraction of solvents and not purification.

ISO is more polar than butane, so it would pick up any water soulbles, but it would leave them behind again if you simply evaporate it.

A cold finger is a simple soxhilet reflux boiler and would still leave the trash with the oil after purging.

If you re-dissolve in ISO and charcoal filter before purging, it would clean up the oil some.

I often re-dissolve in ethanol and stick it in the freezer to settle out before decanting and filtering it to remove the coagulated waxes.

If you re-dissolve in ISO and then mix with salt water and hexane, the crap will go the bottom in a sepratory funnel and the hexane with all the pristine goodies will go to the top. Bleed off the crap, purge the hexane, and voille, pristine oil.

Hexane takes longer to purge than butane, because it is a hydro carbon simple alkane six carbons long, while butane is only four, with attendant lower boiling point. I usually re-dissolve my hexane reductions in ethanol after evaporating off the hexane and purge that a couple of times to help it along.
