Hi Everyone!
Colorado is a wonderful place, and I am appreciative of the chance I now have because of my move here.

Next season, I want to grow six trees outdoors (aside from my outdoor breeding projects). I have a few mixes in mind, and I plan to do raised boxes built with just wood.

Does anyone with outdoor Colorado growing experience have any tips for me? I am looking for best times to plant outside, soil suggestions, strains etc.

Thanks!

greenhouse if your near the front range frost can come very early here (although it was really late this yr i think). lots of people here do outdoor though im sure they can give you great advice.

I was debating building a greenhouse, but wasn't sold on the idea. I have to be cost effective. Haha.

I ran a few plants in a greenhouse this year at around 7,000ft. Here's the CO outdoor thread.

I would recommend a 50% indica or more. The problem with sativas is their growth gets stunted once the weather starts to get cold at night starting early september. The sativas just don't finish. I still have one from this summer trying to finish out in my living room, it makes a nice house plant. Yea 100 day sativas won't work unless you heat your green house to maintain temps over 60-65 degrees.

I had a friend of mine who ran pot if gold outdoor and got a huge yield. The plants that you choose need to finish up before the end of september unless you put them in a green house or tarp them up. I've seen harvests ruined by hail storms and very early frost, so a green house is a great idea but not necessary.

Here's a great deal on a green house from harbor freight. My green house cost me this much in just material and this one is bigger than mine. Security is the real reason for a green house. you're either going to need a high fence with no neighbors (or neighbors that don't care) or alot of land with trees or other coverage.

Any mostly indica strains perform well here. Kush strains work great and they finish up even with the cold nights. you'll get some nice purple hues from the cold nights.

Bonedoc, I grew outside this year, trained my plant low to the ground using a piece of poultry netting staked to the ground, then just used paper clips to make "S" hooks and trained them low. I had the plant in the middle of my vegetable garden. I was thinking maybe a 7ft hoop house next year, Just not sure how the neighbors would like it. Google hoop house and you will find some decent directions on how to build it.

Keep it under the fence and they're ALOT less likely to care. out of sight, out of mind

'Member, big difference in Colorado between 5280' and 7000' and 9000'+. That will dictate a lot.
This is not NorCal, or the PNW.
