It means doing something so outrageously terrible in an obvious way so as to confound people's ability to rationalize it. I think having the driver shoot the president on camera, in public was pretty damn Gonzo. When I think about it, that is the only way to make sure they killed him. You can't rely on shooters a block away, you want a point blank headshot.

Here's one for you also - The only fingerprints found on the 6th floor of the book building were those of Mac Wallace, close friend of LBJ who had been a suspect in murders ordered by LBJ before. And the rifle they found there had a scope so loose they had to shim it in position to test it. Nobody would have been hitting anything from that position. Who knows about that evidence though it could have been planted. I think the zapruder film is mostly accurate, besides the primitive airbrushing on the driver's hand.
