A good friend of mine has been saying he's "switching to 1 stain only and that's final" for the last 8 years. He's always trying the newest stuff anyway just to see. I don't know that one can escape the curiosity of wondering if or not this or that will do better with the same setup.

That's what I'm talking about Panda....I don't know if I will ever monocrop....but I am certainly trying to whittle down what I have as far as mom's go. But once I do that I have 5 packs of seeds to run through looking for stuff. I really need to learn to graft.

Grafting would not help me learn how to run a strain better, even though it would be a great way to boost variety with a limited number of stems!

I'm thinking of monocropping one batch at a time. Since I stagger every 16 days, it shouldn't mean too long a wait for new flavors.

I grow no less then 10 strains at any given time and usually its more like 15-18 dif strains and my folks love it that way.im sure theres more cabbage to be made by running 1 or 2 strains but I never have cash flow problems running things this way so I keep my peeps happy and keep trying new stuff.
I could def see why a new grower would be smart to stick to one strain and pay off his investment before experimenting with multiple strains, but then even new growers have that problem of finding the one that fits their style or needs.at that point its good to have a friend that can hook you up with a proven cut or beans to get you rolling.
but it seems around me with the med scene in high gear folks want something different all the time on top of a 1/4 of there fav smoke so you gotta have both.
what do you do when you got 40-50 pounds of mids that everybodys sick of?
diversify your portfolio :D

I wouldnt think that was possible if u didnt post that pix papa. Ive seen cap growing large bushes in a 2-3 gal(right) size system but those lil trees are impressive for that size container. I new bigger wasnot always better but i thought that there was some correlation to the root mass to foliage ratio and specifically the wider the root mass the wider the plant. now i have to re think that.

I wanna learn to graft so I don't have 20 moms....I'm gonna take a shot at it soon. I also would love to learn how to take cultures....so I could put some of my stuff in the freezer then run it again in a few years.

This is a great reason to graft- as long as there are stem count limits, at least, lol

I can not see the face but I believe that person refers to himself as butte, killer grower as he knocks them out time after time. I looked for that snowcap in a large plants thread but there is over 500 pages in that thread. I did remove this pic from that thread. Here I believe size matters.

j/k, jk. i very much appreciate your high standards.

to clarify, these pics are just from a collection i've amassed over the years. unfortunately, i didn't collect thorough information about them at the time. 'probably too distracted by the impact of the damn photos. 'forgot if those were actual grows by krusty or someone else. maybe jk or others can remember.

Okay, so we officially have a problem with the tree grow!! Something pushed the pH way up around 6.7 in the RDWC with the four big boxes. Worse, there is substantial clear snot growing on all the ladies' roots, especially around the waterline. The plants were looking nutrient deficient, likely a result of both attack by the slime and the rising pH. So why did the pH rise like that? My guess is the bright yellow lids are unable to block enough light, allowing things to grow that shouldn't.

Immediate steps included mixing up a quick batch of Cap's OGbiowar tea, letting it brew for 36 hours, then dunking the plant's roots and netpot in the tea, full strength, up to the rim! I poured 6 cups of tea through the chow mix substrate, and another half gallon into the RDWC.

Then, having ruminated on things long enough to make the above guess about excess light- or maybe heat- in the RDWC water, I grabbed a 4' x 8' sheet of foil wrapped foam insulation board and cut big covers for the tubs, complete with cutouts for the plant buckets. They are definitely making a difference already, things are much darker in the tubs, and I'll bet they stay cooler from now on, as well! The bottom of the tubs are black plastic, very light tight.

Any thoughts, suggestions and questions are welcome. The only significant component change between the new RDWC and the old one is the tubs- so my guess is the lids are the big factor. The painted 5 gallon buckets are fully covered by the net pot bucket lids, by design, so light in the old RDWC was never an issue.

are you talking about these lids having light leaks? for those I would just go with some panda over the whole top or the reflectix/silver bubble wrap from lowes until your done with this run, then paint them.im sure cap will get you sorted on the slimmy shizzle,gl

The whole lid is yellow, and thus glows bright yellow inside the tub even underneath a strong light source. You can do bubble wrap, I used what I did because it was handy.

I used his root pak, considering it was a root issue. I'm interested in the outcome, too!

Need to stop the light leak asap.

1) fill system with fresh water. Add physan at rate of 3mL per 25 gallons. Let run for 3 hours.
2) drain. Fill system with water. Add bleach at rate of 16 drops per 25 gallons. let run for 3 hours
3) fill system with water. add tea at 1 cup per 5 gallons.

Add tea weekly to fresh nutes change out.

ROOT PACK is exactly what you want to use. You may also add it directly the the res. Get a 1 gallon contianer, mix the root pack in to a gallon of non chlor. water. Mix it really well to break up all the clumps. Let it settle for a few minutes, the majority of talc will fall to the bottom. Pour the liquid off the top right in to yoru res.

I was doing this last run with very good results. I was using like 1/4 cup of root pack per 100 gallons.

I did the 36 hour brew and dunked the roots in the tea. More tea went into the netpots to percolate through, and more went into the res. None of the rest of my RDWC are perfectly light tight, so I expect the foil covered foam boards to be adequate. Before I installed them, it was altogether too well lit in there! I'm thinking this will help drop the water temps, too.

I don't own any physan 20, I'll go the bleach route if the beneficials don't gain the upper hand in a few days.

A few of my friends do this thing with flour they keep in the fridge and occasionally 'feed' with a little sugar... sourdough starter!

Can this same idea be applied to a batch of beneficial tea? Just add a bit of sugar and a dab of bennies now and again, to a more or less perpetual bucket of tea? Or, as in my case where I need more tea than I have on hand, would this help extend my batch or is it a waste compared to just diluting it?

Pics of the light leak fix, and a yellowing lady. The slime on the roots is not covering everything, but it is in all the plants.

I would foliar feed them a bit now your roots are compromised. My tanks are thick so light has never been an issue, but I feel whatever infected your girls was already in the water waiting around for the right conditions. With my patients grows I usually can see were something stressed the plants before the bloom came about. I find coir holds on to things well so I might run some pH water in there to rinse out the bleach more. Then the bennies JK
