If CFL's are to close. You will get nodes that are to close. I think I have heard it called "Miniaturized".
Heat is different for everybody as far as distance, given factors an such.
I did that to 3 plants on My 1st grow using cfls's. They were like 26' when they finished:speechless: Flowered with an led.

But 12"!?

Exactly, and that is what it is called!
If he moves then 12 inches away< i will have them plants looking like Paw Paw horizan grew them himself...
I already know the answer, im just trying to let him come to that conclusion on his own,
because we tend to make changes when we think we came up with it on our own..

Lol you can say im trying to use some psychology on him :)

Seriously everyone chime in about 12" away cfls. These are not T5s were talking about here. These are 23-45w cfls.

I will fall back and eat my waffles while you get some more opinions...
And check back in a few...
I think its smart that you verify my recommendations!
You will come to know me as, A trust able reference when you need it so im not butt hurt :)

I would actually move them further away than 1'
you are in veg
flower is when you need light blasting
veg you could get away with one cfl 3' above
you are stunting the plant by having the light to close
what event wants is for you to back up the light so the plant will stretch to the light..elongating the node spacing
you will understand once flowering ....why it is optimal to have some spacing between nodes...insteading of having them on top of each other
you see once you get all your branches
then you lower the light...stunt the nodes and flip to flower....forcing the nodes tighter for flower sights
but not for veg
you want some space between your branches

if that makes sense

I'm getting less than outdoor shade amount of lux from the furthest light as it is according to an app but that could be saying nothing lol

Thank you Wisher, and I prob should of went more indepth on the node spacing,
so he fully understood what I meant..
Excellent post!

Found this chart. My bulbs don't even scale that high.
Light proximity

So is that just dead wrong or what?

So is that just dead wrong or what?
so the chart isnt wrong per se
we are just "more right"

you want your plants to grow
....your plants arent growing....if you move the leaves your plant is "stunting" stacking node on top of each other....you dont want that.....when you hear the phrase ....."stacked nodes" it is refering to flower when your plant has tightly stacked nodes for flowers

right now you are building branches which come from nodes in veg
since cfls are mostly blue wavelength which promotes vegetation and you have them sitting on top of the plant....it is just gonna grow leaves and not grow up...not good

if you back you light away
you are partially correct...the plant wont be getting optimal light saturation....but....there is enough light for your plant to grow up to get that saturation

kinda like putting a doughnut on a string and makin a fat kid chase it
once you are done the kid is a little thinner
if you just let the kid get it without chasin it
the kid just keeps growin sideways
make sense

maybe that didnt

but if you dont move you lights up now....you plant is pretty much dont growing....it will change its hormone balance and "dud out"
