I am not complete sure that you can do this with Tissue Culture, regardless if you can or cannot. The need for Sterile environment is far above what a hobby grower can achieve.I've found a little bit of info and discussion by searching Google but not much info on this topic. Has anyone heard of creating clones from roots and does anyone have a guide they can point me too. I had a very nice Chemdog clone that I recently cut in dwc. I didn't take any clones plus I don't really plan on starting my tent back up until fall (no central air and summer electric rates are too high plus I have a nice harvest). Reading they take quite sometime to take hold it clicked this might be a nice experiment for me to do as I still have the bucket going from the clone question (has a single leaf some of the stem and root ball, originally i planned on trying to reveg this then take clones from that as I have time and it would require limited power). Thoughts anyone ever heard of this technique or is it just a myth?
huh?Tissue culture is the step used when the material is limited.
huh?
Moe.Red I have seen this done before. When I have seen it done they used the stem of the plant and they did clean the material in ISO before going under the hood. Next the ends of the stem were cut. I am assuming this is to remove the dead cells from the ISO. Are the Apical Meristen cells inside the stemYes, it can be done. Anthem is right, unless you have invested in the lab and techniques to do it, it is too late for you at this point.
It's not just the thousands you will spend to get sterile (my wallet has a hole in it where money used to be) it is the experience you need to be successful. Most tissue culture uses the apical meristem cells for good reason. I would not want my first try to be with a fully differentiated root cell that is FAR from sterile to begin with. The apical meristem is used because it is not yet connected to the plant's circulatory system - clearly every root cell is. Tough job for a beginner.
I also think Lex is right - probably not worth the effort even if you were lab ready - there are lots of other plants out there to experience - go pop some seeds man!
Just because there is a way, it does not mean it is cost effective for the hobby grower. It's a method of propagation using Petrie dishes and agar agar and proprietary ingredients.

Yeah, I know what it is and I do it. I don't understand the "when material is limited" part. It's a method of propagation using Petrie dishes and agar agar and proprietary ingredients.

If you had a plant that was just a clump of roots with maybe some stalk and a few specks of green. You might be able to culture the plant. To make a mother plant. Where as that's too small to clone. Like if you grew the best bag seed ever and were desperate to save the genetics that would be the only way.Yeah, I know what it is and I do it. I don't understand the "when material is limited" part.
Me too, in my house.Moe.Red I have seen this done before.
Actually, I think that might be wrong. I have read they are at the tip of the top growth and tip of the roots in cannabis. You want to get away from the vascular structures. Are the Apical Meristen cells inside the stem
That is what I have seen on videos, I am sure they used the just stem and not the tops or roots. I have no real world knowledge of how to do it, I have just watched the stuff on you tube.Me too, in my house.

be careful with that someone is going to post up one of those POS tissue culture kits that is available. Such a joke, the level of sterility required is not funny!I guess this is all irrelevant. OP cannot do it at this point, and none of this is how or why I do it - it's like putting a square peg in a round hole.
I don't have the skills to make vibrant clones from a clump of left over root, and don't really plan on acquiring them. Not really the point.
