Damn cold ass weather sucks.

Well it's begun. Night temps have dropped considerably. Day before yesterday we had a high winds that broke a couple branches and the temp dropped to 29 degrees. 1 of my plants had some leaves die from the cold. Other 2 were hating it but looked ok. Last night it was 34. Haven't been out to look at them yet. Not sure what to do. Nights won't get much warmer. My plants never finish. I have never had a plant harvested because it has ambered enough in my 4 years growing. None of them have any amber at this point still. Will probably just pull them. I dont anticipate much if any change at all going forward. My grow season is to short and my garden not sunny enough. Disappointed.

Where are you located? When are you starting your plants? Also, what are you growing? Some plants take longer than others.

I did find that once the sun's position lowered, my back yard (for the most part), only received morning sun. My plants in the beds, only got a few hours each day, as the season changed. The trees are the neighbors, so there is nothing I can do about it.

I’m a fan of letting them go as long as you can without killing them! Sometimes there’s processes going on inside of them that we are Not privy to! I Like to bend the colas open and check out what’s going on deep in the bud! Usually see a lot of white pistols and clear tri-combs that can’t be seen from the outside! If nothing else, it’s interesting! Hang in there, neighbor! And if you know you’re going to harvest I like to quit. Watering them a week ahead of time! That might fetch you some Amber!

Can I ask what your process is at the beginning of the season? What size plants are you starting with? Is there any way you could get a veg space for them in your house or garage or shed and start them in like February or march?

Don’t get stressed, for a lot of outdoor growers that’s how it works. Most areas aren’t ideal for growing and you’re not going to grow a 20’ pest and disease free with giant bragging buds.

The biggest factor is going to be your genetics. A big bud is a rotten bud. (And no one sells a 70’s size bud anyway, Who wants to pay for stems? It’s all quarter size these days. Big buds are just for posting pictures. )

Look for strains that have small bud structure and more disease tolerant. (Which admittedly has become harder over the years with all the big bud hybrids.) Look for breeders who give out this info, not for one’s telling you it’s .

And while you obviously need to give your flowers time to mature, amber trichomes are degraded trichomes. If you want relaxing couch weed, just save your old stuff. The THC will convert to CBN over a couple years and you’ll sleep like a baby. Otherwise you’ll still get plenty high with some clear trichomes. (And while probably not relevant in your case, with some strains the trichomes don’t cloud up. They’ll go from clear to red.)

I live in Nor Cal. Really Nor Cal at the base of one of the most beautiful mountains. I started my plants in April and outside in June. 2 strains were to have finished around 3 weeks or so ago. Others somewhere around now.

I’ve had some in November, that wouldn’t even turn. Cloudy! You never know! have to make some tough calls! But there is no substitute for abundant sunlight throughout the whole grow!

Can you cut down any trees for next year? Asking because my plants that didn't get much light definitely grew much different then mine that got light (same strain). Or even move the location of your grow area?

Your timing is right though. My seeds were started later, but plants were outside by June 1st. I can't put them out any sooner in my location.

I would agree with mancorn about genetics AND big buds being more for photos. Big buds usually equals rotten bud at the end of the season.

Don't give up or be discouraged. It can be very frustrating to put this much time and effort in plants and not have the end result we expect. You are valid in your feelings, just stay the course. Learn more each year.

I guess it's not so bad right now am more hating what's to come if shit don't change a little. I want this to come out as good as it can. The Tropicana banana is larfy and doesn't even smell so not overly thrilled. Have to bank on my Mimosa and Ayahuasca purple.

Thats great! Im wondering if you started them in march if that would help? I know they are dependent on the season changing to throw them into flower. Got a buddy with some still out in the ground in my area, Northern California foot hills. But temps still aren’t lower than 50’s right now.

I want to take down our willow tree. Willows are not strong at all. Branches die and break. It would cost allot to take it down or I would. Other problem tree is the neighbors extremely massive oak tree.

I’m what you call “central” (but Dodger fans call Northern) and can see the big lake out west. Grandparents had a place out in the Trinity Alps and guessing you have similar weather. My May & June were noticeable cooler this year and a real slow start.

As everyone says, there’s no substitute for sun. And while it might be blasphemy with all the nice dirt, if your schedule allows you might try some large fabric pots on pallets and wheels and move them during the day.

If you want to be really cool grab some large scale yard train tracks and inch your pots along while you’re at work. For sure you’ll get in High Times!

Those tracks are genius. Been trying to rack my brain on a type of pull system. Those pots can get heavy moving them around. I also damaged a few limbs by moving them around.

They’re not going to get real big and you do still need to cage them, but I’ve drug pots around the patio following the sun.
