Alright, I'll preface this with the fact that I am not very tech-savvy, but I'll give ya the jist.

So the general idea will be based around something like this:http://www.raspiviv.com
If you look around the site it's clear that the system here is designed for something aquarium size but we'll use some of the the concepts and scale them up. Case in point:http://www.raspiviv.com/raspberry-pi-vivarium-controller/sensors except with this (https://www.adafruit.com/products/1293) sensor instead, something that I can hang down in the middle of the room.
Now that'll be relayed to this: http://www.raspiviv.com/raspberry-pi-vivarium-controller/relays and it'll fire on the dehuey whenever the rh rises above a set point.

I've run two cheapy 70 pints in a 20x20 sealed no problem but I also had a 5-ton mini split. They are good when you know when to use them

Strange, for some reason i wasn't getting notifications to replies for this thread??

So i'm 4 weeks into flower and ended up buying a 70 pint dehuey, to coincide with my 30 pint one. I have both units set on top of two seperate HDX 27 gallon storage containers, i rigged both containers with float valves. Pretty awesome how quick the 27 gallon will fill up, plus the ppm of the water being pulled out of the air is like at 40 ppm! I re-use the water for future res changes. If the 27 gallons is full it shuts the float valve off, which causes the internal resevoir built in the dehuey to fill up. Once that is full it shuts the unit off, which is a downfall. I'm going to rig the dehuey to fill a 200 gallon res i have, giving me more days to not stress if the 27 gallons have filled to compacity.

However, i still can't get my RH below 50%. It usually stays at exactly 50%. My dilemma is that when i flood my trays 3-4 times a day, my RH rises to about 55%. If i only run 2 floods a day, i can get the RH down to 45%, but now I'm sacraficing precious nutrient feeding to my flowering plants. I can already see the affects of not feeding the plants enough. I feel buds could bigger. I have two more weeks of feeding to go.

I've run into small issues of PM, but have caught it early and run a couple sulphur burns. It's helped a ton too, but i see small traces of PM here and there. It's not an investation, but i really understanding why you should go with a commercial dehuey!

I have a 10,000 btu Honeywell AC, which keeps the room around 65-70 degrees. So room temp seems on point.

Just getting frustrated cause i need that damn RH to go down to 40% around final week.

You think rock salt or rice in a bucket could help aid my dehueys to get my RH in the 40's??

Haha! Just did that today!

I'm doing strain testing, and some got a bit wild (kosher kush), if i go SOG next time, will the RH be lower with smaller plants, or maybe increase RH with having more plants. I have about 80 plants, thinking of going 100+ for SOG.

You think if i switch to a mini split AC (18,000 btu) and go with a Quest dehuey (110 pint), that could help with bwtter enviroment control? -OR- if i switch to SOG and keep my Honeywell AC, and run the two dehueys i have (30 pint, plus 70 pint), that could be fine?

I feel like it's more watts to run my Honeywell and two dehueys, than it would be for a Quest and mini split ac?? All in the math i guess

Quite honestly, I consider 50% humidity to be on the low end of a proper Environment... I would shoot for 60 to 65% RH...and temps between 74-78 F.

That said, if you are having issues with PM, I might change my tune... And I also might get a HEPA air filter and scrub my air.

Got a scrubber on my intake, maybe i just need more air circulation under my plants? They definitely have good air over the canopy!

VPD dictates cool and dry or warm and moist air.

Problem is PM is a miserable hateful bastard.

Deeply appreciate your HEPA advice in my PM thread. I'm looking for HEAP/UV combo units that don't do ionic or ozone now.

I do all these too, except no float valves. Plants will frost up hard at 35% rh but that means much cooler air to keep a healthy vpd

I'm considering not only the UVc+HEPA filter but also a 3rd debut, on a timer, just for dark cycle when rh spikes like crazy.

In my opinion, going below 60% RH at any point, including drying, is sacrificing weight. You're drying out the buds while they're still maturing/swelling.

Fighting PM is another issue. It lives in your plants and it's gonna keep coming back, so combating it with a dehumidifier is just trading one negative for another.
