haha everyone's clear to talk now. there was definite OCD kicking in. i moved as quick as I could to get the entire journal put in before someone came along and screwed it up. Luckily I was quick enough that it went smoothly.I use to "wing it" too, BUT.....Just an fyi regarding "Bookmarks" ...Click on your icon pic thingy in the upper right corner, then click on "Bookmarks", scroll through your list of bookmarks and click on the one that your tryna get to, or not. (*I noticed CN already mentioned this above, good job CN! )
@tobh...Please don't delete my a** if I'm not suppose to "talk" yet!
Niiiiice job man!FREAKIN' SWEET GROW! Now CN is gonna have to step up his game, thanks to YOU AND DB too...TEAMwork!
When I first saw your thread I told CN, there goes tobh's OCD kickin' in!
i'm workin on her still! she's just stubborn and has never used a forum so she doesn't really wanna learn another form of social media. she's feelin alright, has a series of appointments scheduled to get checked out. we gotta get down to the root cause of the vertigo and nausea before something more critical happens.@tobh...And Thank YOU! And You're Welcome!Looking forward to meeting Mrs. tobh and hope she's feeling better too...
Have you checked her ears?we gotta get down to the root cause of the vertigo and nausea before something more critical happens.
not yet, but they're on the list of things to look at. i'm leaning pretty heavily towards POTS syndrome at this point though. Given the original onset was when she had our daughter, and pregnancy is a known trigger for it, it makes the most sense based off the other symptoms she's been having. when she had her first episode, her mother took her to the ER and they checked her for a stroke then, and of course didn't find anything.Have you checked her ears?
My grandfather was hard of hearing and had weird colds and such. Took him to the Ear Doc and found out he had blocked ears and it was infected.not yet, but they're on the list of things to look at. i'm leaning pretty heavily towards POTS syndrome at this point though. she does need her ears checked though, i swear she's more deaf than i am. either that or just likes making me repeat myself, knowing damn well i absolutely HATE repeating anything I've said lol
What?knowing damn well i absolutely HATE repeating anything I've said lol
it's not off the table. my biggest concern would be sinking the heat effectively. plus, COBs are crazy powerful and lettuce doesn't like strong light. so would definitely need something like a meanwell with a pot on it otherwise the plants will just be cooked.Consider DIY'ing something using COB type LEDs? If you're handy, you can probably jazz them up in something that's visually appealing. They work really well and you can space them out however you like.
Ha! Yes, dimmer on the driver without a doubt. I have a bunch of COBs and the heatsinks work great. They never get super hot. Especially at the levels you'd have them dimmed. Extremely easy to work with as well.it's not off the table. my biggest concern would be sinking the heat effectively. plus, COBs are crazy powerful and lettuce doesn't like strong light. so would definitely need something like a meanwell with a pot on it otherwise the plants will just be cooked.
yeah, with too high of light or heat they will bolt though. which, bolting is their flowering process and it turns the leaves bitter in the process.aren't lettuce vegetive plants? T5 would be sufficient i would say?
Wouldnt LED's be a bit overkill for lettuce? My understanding was its a pretty low light crop.so, I think i have the design for this NFT system together. at least a preliminary version. gonna reiterate over it again and figure out how to keep it visually appealing while retaining the functionality as best as possible.
working on sourcing parts now. i'm not terribly sure about using gutters or vinyl down spouts as gutters are so damn tall and down spouts have ribbing in them. finding individual NFT rails is also proving fruitless, only way I've come across sourcing those is by buying an NFT kit and I'm not going to spend $500+ on something I can build for less than $100 if I can find the right materials.
also talked with the ol lady and we decided that having the thing exposed would be fine, will just set the timers for the lights at weird intervals, like 1AM to 3PM or something since we typically aren't using the living room during those times or during morning to afternoon so won't matter much anyways.
Still debating on lighting though. T5s look most promising but LED is also super appealing. Trying to decide if one bulb/bar would suffice for each rail or if I should do like a six bulb fixture for each level. most of the fixtures on amazon don't specify a footprint like they do for LEDs. Definitely not doing the blurple thing though, it's gotta be something more natural looking -- even if it's 6500K.
the lady and kids are excited either way. just hope the three year old terrorist doesn't decide to reverse engineer the thing during one of his destructive missions.
yeah, that's my biggest hesitation with LED. the amount of light will definitely be too intense. the 8,000 - 15,000 PAR that a T5 produces would be perfect for it, along with various herbs like basil, parsley, cilantro, and dill.Wouldnt LED's be a bit overkill for lettuce? My understanding was its a pretty low light crop.
