I think its more of a you shouldn't need it, and its expensive. Then again I installed 2 a/c's that would have cost me 2k to have someone install them for me. I made a 500 dollar mistake and learned alot in the process. I still came out 1500 ahead :)

So far the lg and the friedrich seem to be quality.

Both are good units. The Friedrich will run at colder ambient temps out of the box. (May not matter in your area.) Mitsubishi also make a good unit.

So is the worst case scenario during the install, so long as you vacuum properly that the coolant will leak and it will stop getting cold before moisture makes it back in from loss of positive pressure?

2k for install or 500 for a recharge and line maintance is a no brianer to me as well
