In my world that's too low, yes, and I would use a humidifier or at the very least an open container (wider rather than taller) of water. Do you have plants in there right now? The plants will raise the humidity simply by their own transpiration, as well as by the water that will be able to evaporate from the media.

at what stage are your plants in? in the vegetative stage you can run 10% higher, flowering stage you will be alright until your plants get large(then expect humidity to rise),when drying you will want to rise up 10/15%( you don't want flower to dry very fast)

Surely not a good idea with HID bulbs like HPS or MH? Wouldn't spraying the plants cause burns from the water droplets magnifying the light?

40% is ok IMO. Ideally you want it higher but this is the low end of acceptable.

Best wishes for your grow.

I veg 20/4 or 18/6 and 10 minutes before lights come on, I give them a good spray. My climate can be dry, so I do spray sometimes 5 more times. I turn oscillating fans off, then I lift the light as high as I can when I do and after 5 or so minutes, bring it back down. Since I started this, plants have ditched the" humidity in the room is too dry look" and rarely, if ever see plant burns. Doing this gave me the idea that they would be so conditioned to sprays(I spray both sides of the leaves most of time), that mixing in some foliar(nute)sprays would put them in a great position to use them as good as they can. The results have been positive as far as I can tell. Peace.

during seedling and vegetative growth relative humidity should be around 60-70%. during flowering 40-60%. it should not fluctuate more than 15% from day to night.

thats what jorge says at least
