Does anybody top or lolipop their auto flowers?

So I'm curious if anyone tops their auto flowers, or lollipops them, and if yes, when? And compared to not topping do you notice any difference in yeild or quality?

I've never grown an auto but most people will tell you not to top an auto-flower plant. Reason - your plant is on a time schedule. Any vegetation removed will take time to regrow. You don't have that extra time and end results is lost yield. I'd still trim yellowing leaves and lower sucker branches but I'll leave it to the auto-flower experts to give you further details.

I topped my last auto but it was a hydro grow. it might cause a slight delay in soil so a warning given. No problems. I got 6.5oz from her. I also did a scrog with her. Lollipoppoing the bottom third is probably fine. I was possibly over-fertilizing her because I wasn't really tracking ppms back on this grow. Live and learn. I think I topped around the 5th or 6th node. I just take off the leaves I think aren't doing much deep under the canopy. This one I didn't defoliate too much. I think going from seed to harvest in 68 days.

can you tell an Auto from a photoperiod when you smoke it? I'm sure some Autos jare better than others, I assume the goal is to get the results ,(quick flowering, very early harvest) with the lowest % of Ruderalis in it. I would imagine it's hard to tell if it's 2%.......maybe easy to tell if it's 12%?

Ive grown a few autos, usually outdoor and all natural, no training. Ive also grown 4 or 5 inside and i supercropped them all and topped 2 as well. The 2 i topped were by accident and they actually did very well. 1 was 11.5 ounces and another was 6.7 ounces. If shes growing vigorously, i think you could be okay to top an auto, its just with their short veg period you really want to avoid anything like that or it could stunt the plant and decrease the yield instead of increasing yield.

I have had no experience growing Night Owl or Mephisto autos. I hear they are very good. I have some Ethos Autos I have yet to grow. I've grown like 5 Autos (growers choice and herbies) and 1 Photo(Ethos). My 1 photo was superior in every way and the buds better in my opinion but I don't want to bash a whole class of seeds.

Thanks, was the 11.5 and 6.7 outdoors or indoors? That's pretty good yeild for auto's right? And you super cropped? Damn...

I personally don't prefer autos anymore unless I have a very limited scope I'm working with. Small lamp indoor or a light polluted area outside. Or if you wanted a very early outside harvest. Other than that I see no value in growing autos and it's weird to see the trend in their popularity growing quickly. Autos can get chunky which is nice.

That was indoors. Ive only pulled a max of 6 per plant outside. But with that said, i dont really like the autos i only grow them because i dont wanna deal with the mold/mildew of late season budding where i am, plus its all just stuff to sell/give to friends. I hardly smoke it.

But can you tell when you smoke them......if you didn't know a plant was an Auto, you just smoked it, it could be an Auto or a Regular photoperiod. Could you tell the difference?

I personally in a blind tasting would not know. But some people claim they can tell.

oh wow gorgeous plant!

btw i also thought that autos and topping cannot be friends. now im curious lol

Yes I did once bc was going to outgrow my light, while possible autos hate stress, guess I was lucky.

Autos are great for my balconies, for example!
I always have a couple going in a balcony next to my living room, they only get about three hours of direct sunlight each day, so they can't be picky and auto's are great for that reason.
I just leave them there, feed them occasionally, let them do their thing, and get a few extra crops a year (considering I also have a 4x4 tent going inside with regular plants, I'll probably never have to buy weed again).
