Need a chiller, even ambiant room temps will get your water temps above what is optimal for the roots.

Not a requirement if your room isn't scorching.

Here's two 8-sites, one chilled and one not: http://www.icmag.com/ic//showthread.php?t=152988

Guess that means anal activities with our female escort friends is not off limits in my neck of the woods. Vegas rocks!

thats what Im sayin, you could grow without one, but its risky business, its better to be safe than sorry when were talking about 3,4,or 15lbs, either way losing a crop costs 20-100x more than a chiller

You can make your own chiller if your short on funds.

Need:
Mini fridge
5 gallon bucket
40 ft of 3/4" clear or black tubing
1200-1400 GPH magdrive pump
Drill and bit to match OD size of tubing you choose

Coil tube inside of 5 gallon bucket and fill bucket with salty water.

Drill 2 holes in the drop of the minifridge and put each end of the tubing through it.

Thats about it.... Should be pretty self explanatory how it works.

Much better would be to find a mini fridge that has an actual coil, take that out and either place it in a tube that the pump runs thru. Some units you can take out the freezer (on the small ones thats the part that the coil runs thru), and dump it in your res..

Trying to chill water via air exchange is something like 26 less times efficient, so its better if you just put the a/c coil itself direct contact with the water. :)

Whats a good pump? I am going to give my chiller its on dedicated pump.

I have a 8XL, thinking up grading its pump to a 950 or even a 1200, stupid idea?

Aqua Logic's chillers are well made and they handle all the big commercial aquariums. Iwaki pumps that have the Japanese motors (MD models) are far better then 80% of the pumps out there. JK

Im not experienced with water chillers and pumps but I have been looking to get the iwaki pump to go with my chiller. Is there a big difference with the american motor as opposed to the japanese motor?

I use the cheap ass ECO pumps myself. I usually keep a spare around

For my chillers I use their 1054 and for my mpb's i use their 2200.. for draining my system I use their 600 pump and another 600 for filling.

I know a guy selling an used (3 Months used) Oceanic Chiller 1/10 HP for $300. Do you guys think would worth buy this one used or put more $120 and get a new one? My concern is the warranty as I don't know how long these chillers last :/
