Hi Mary
I really dont use anything. An excellent chiller is really the key to not having any root problems. If your chiller is set to 62 degrees and can run the whole 12 hours and not climb any more than 2 degrees than your perfect. If this is not the case YOU WILL GET ROOT ROT sooner or later and probably many times. Pythium cant grow in nute solution under 65 or 66 degrees so if we keep our water colder than it just cant happen.... period.

Hey Gettogro, i think ive seen this recomendation before....
lol @ medimary
In any event it seems like DD has his MPB figured out... Let's hope more MPB users can have similar success instead of the trend of failures... :nod
Well, I'd really like to see the MPB have a better success rate, but it seems like the devil is in the details... :itwasntme
“It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.” Mark Twain quote
Don't want to hurt anyones feelings but, with so many MPB failures out there, why so many folks experiment with DD's formula is a mystery to me. It makes sense to experiment after you have had success with the system.
I've wondered if it could be as simple a thing as DD's use of tap water, instead of R/O. The chlorine in the tap water during rez changes could kill whatever is causing the brown root funk.
These MPB failures are like auto accidents, I'm compelled to slowdown and look, but its makes me very sad.:sad0071:
i wish everybody would get it going well

lol so soon im gonna have another room, was really thinking about coco but then id have to learn a whole new medium...I dont understand it myself widowmaker, people talk about tweaking but the system i put online is already heavily tweaked. Approx. 4 years of tweaking. This system is so easy to use i find it unimaginable that sooo many peeps are having problems. The only person i personally helped that has failed was northone here at the farm, he gave up after 2 tries and went back to his method. Everyone else here at home hasnt had any problems at all. If you read the threads about 1st time grower... He just finished his 6th grow without any root problems. He did exactly what i told him and he's been golden.
btw widowmaker, his water is well water with a 250ppm count, my water is 70 ppm. You would have thought he would have had problems but no, he's doing real good.
i wish everybody would get it going well

I think these types of thermometer use the temperature as a reference in measuring the RH.lol, was that in the picture? lol If your talking about the thermostat on the wall there is a bulb spewing light right onto it so its reading higher, i only use that for the rh. I am having a problem keeping the rh in the 40% range. The a/c is sucking more moisture than the plants are putting out. Its 60% when the lights turn on and 25% after 12 hours. Doesnt seem to be affecting anything negatively though. Temp is a constant 75 degrees measured with a probe thermometre.
