In theory you use almost the same amount of water your just increasing the amount of oxygen available to the root zone
So if you normally water for 100 seconds a day you want to water 4x at 25secs or any combo equaling what your plants needs are cap used to water 20 secs every hr.
Generally speaking when nutrients dry up the leave behind unused nutes take the shape of salty crystals. This where ppl typically see problems with salt build up. So in order to combat this we increase the amount of water that we run off as so unused salts don't dry up.
In a nutshell the more feed the more you want the consistent wet slightly wet cycles instead of slightly dry
