I went on a trip too South America quite recently, where I tried ayahuasca. I had had DMT before, along with a number of other entheogens. The ayahuasca experience however left quite an impression on me. I came back from it with a profound interest in drug inspired art and in particular, Alex Grey's work.

Thought I'd post a few images of what I'm talking about and see if I could get a discussion going on how others view this sort of art and whether they've tried ayahuasca or other entheogens before.

Alex Grey is a fav of mine in this regard. I like Peter Max a lot too.

I used to trip nuts constantly, and ingested my fair share of entheogens (ayahuasca included).

Can't really handle the shit anymore, I don't know what happened--I went from tripping for two years straight and being fine to eating a few mushroom caps and losing my fucking mind. I think it's just an age and mindset thing. Had all my best tripping before I had a care in the world--I think my everyday stress just fucks me now. Seeing shit like this just makes me nostalgic and sad that I can't trip anymore.

Closest thing to a religious experience I ever had, and I can barely look at the stuff. Frowny face.

Two of my favorite artists are Paul Laffoley and Stanislav Szukalski. Both are verrrrrry far out there with their subject matter and style, but I don't think either of them were into drugs. Surely not psychedelics with Szukalski because he was working back in the 30's creating insanity before psychedelics hit. Szukalski is a master of all mediums, he draws and paints and sculpts and casts bronzes. Everything he does is just amazingly detailed and perfect. Laffoley is an alien masquerading as a human being is the best way I can describe it. Here is a tiny representation of Szukalski. . . But his work encompasses so many styles you would have to see 10 of each of his paintings, drawings and sculptures to appreciate the diversity of his talents.

Paul Laffoley seems to be trying to convey some hyperdimensional knowledge through his works. For 30 years he has lived in a small warehouse area in Boston where he works and rarely leaves. Even Timothy Leary couldn't grasp his art at a showing in the 60's which says a lot haha. I have a signed and framed original of the Skull of Plotinus #50/100 and a very rare book containing his writings and a lot of his art and they are two of my most treasured items. I got a place in Eureka to frame the SoP they did such a sick job on it. . .Cost more than the artwork but it just sets it off unbelievably.

Yeah Giger is pretty intense, and also a real sick puppy. His stuff is like alien necrophilic themed it's crazy.

i wonder what drugs he was on o_O...he did a whole bunch of art that was a holocaust themed..

Thanks to Whomever started this thread. . . Looking up Szukalski pics I noticed that the store on his website just listed a new poster they found in a warehouse somewhere. . . Only $18 bucks including postage for a super nice color poster of one of his paintings, this thing is an original print from 40 years ago! Snapped one up immediately.

And I found out that Paul Laffoley is having an art showing from January to March next year in Boston! I want to go so bad, and have him sign my book of his called The Phenomenology of Revelation. That book is worth like 350 if he signs it it would be worth twice that at least. I'd never sell any of my art though.

Somebody like Giger, they don't need to do drugs to get what they are thinking on paper. But I would guess speed or cocaine, and definitely downers or heroin in his case. I get a really negative vibe from Giger's stuff. It's not just creepy, it exudes a very dark feeling to me like it is based on something very real that he is in touch with on some level.

I thoroughly enjoy Alex and Allyson Gray's work. I have got to see them paint live numerous times now and how quickly things come together is amazing. Both are insane artists. This weekend get to check out Alex Gray's book premiere/release thing with Eoto. Should be an awesome night chocked full of crazy artwork. Have to say, if you are in the bay or CO- there are a LOT of truly visionary artists to be observed/checked out. I'll try and find this pic i saw of gray piece where it was buncha aliens. pretty dope.

Alex grey did a painting in 1989 that part of it depicted the trade center towers with a jet airliner flying above them and smoke on the horizon. I like to think he was tapped in to the cycle of time, depicting something that was fated to happen.

this is an awesome thread! i love psychedelic art like this. saw some of alex grey's work at an exhibition at a festival recently. was blown away by it. had seen a few things by him and his wife before, but never really paid much attention to it. thought it was overrated to be perfectly honest, but when i check out the exhibition, i suddenly realised what everyone was on about. amazing shit! he's totes obsessed with the anatomy theme.

a site i used to check out a bit when i was quite a bit younger was sunecho.com. it's still going. here are a few pics from it.

i loved acid when i was younger not sure i could handle it again, been about 12 years, took 10 years off from shrooms till this halloween when i got drunk at a party and started handing out and eating shrooms like a drunkin idiot, was pretty fun although i couldn't stay in the house for more then a couple minutes. i've been toying with the idea of acid again. definitely gonna try dmt. dmt seems to be the perfect fit for me because it only last a short time, the biggest reason i don't get high is because of the big ol amounts of timm eit takes i'm god damn busy now that i'm a grown up. i do still however

Great response, thanks for all the posts guys. Some really interesting art here.

And that last pic is GOLD!

I still trip now and then. Had some pretty intense trips in my time, some of them fairly dark and traumatic, but overall good times are the norm. DMT is crazy, too full on to take much out of it IME. I feel like longer trips allow them to be processed better and therefore more can be learnt from them.

any one ever mess with any of the 2Cfamily....i did it once, and would have been realy pissed off if i would have dosed what i was givin...that shit has legs...i coulda picked drywall nails out of the walls with my toe nails..and the darkness was way to close for me...
