What speed controllers is everyone using with a maxfan or canfan? I have a couple 10" maxfans that HATE the speedster controllers. Super loud at any level other then 100%. The canfilter people told me to use this one..

but it seems like almost the same thing as the speedster. Anyone have any good experiences with speed controllers for these fans?

I go to ace hardware and get a fan controller that can handle 5 amps for about $10....works with my 10" maxcan wonderfully

i read somewhere the maxfan 10" use a diff motor then the others and wont work right on those at all

My 10' MaxFan runs just fine with a fan speed controller.

I run it about 90% cooling four 1000w HPS bulbs. While acclimating plants from flourescents when I had the ballasts at 50% I ran it at 50% and the tops of the hoods were barely warm to the touch.

I dunno what these people are doing right that I'm doing wrong ,but I have 2 different speedsters <<name brand good ones from the hydro shop(not the one you showed)

and a 8inch and 10inch MAX series fan from CAN,both growl loud as hell when on a speedster

8inch the black one
10inch the shiney one

I bought a 10inch vortex ,can turn it up and down where ever I damn please with NO growl or groaning

sorry ,but I dont trust leaving a fan running in my grow room that makes noises like they do with a speedster hooked up

so for me,it's 100% or not at all

I got a 12" max and that fucker makes so much god dam noise, I don't know if its the controller or what but im replacing it next chance with a more powerful vortex xl there supposed to be quieter but im stuck with it for now..

take the controller off, betcha it'll be quiet as could be!

Or have you tried it with no controller already,I mean size for size running at full speed they are the quietest fans on the market, but add a controller in the mix ,and it facks everything up

Just tested it out and man your right, god dam speedster... its off but not like i need it at this time of the year but fuck i can't believe its adding that much extra noise. With the speedster on it screeches to the point that it actually sounds like a grow op from the outside, with it off it sounds like it could be a dryer. Now I wanna know whats up!!!!

buy a variac

if you dont want added noise from a speed controller !

sorry if this is a stupid question but if the fan is being used to cool lights, exhaust the room, or a combination of both, why would you wanna control the speed? wouldnt it be best in any case to use maximum power? If this is an attempt to save $ do cans really suck that much juice? again sry if this is ignorant, I pretty much am to growing

well right now its really hot out so it has to run on max but when it cools down medium or lower works good for keeping my room at 78-80. If you have ever turned on a can fan max 12" you will realize its a beast and needs to be turned down when its not hot out.

i have 2 vortex 10 in, i guess its just so hot where I am no need to slow it down, i may think otherwise in the winter tho
