Advanced Nutrients....Grandma Enggys H2

Humic Acid (derived from Leonardite) 2.62%
inert ingredients 97.38%

4L size from advanced nutrients online = 97.42

4L size from homemade = less than two dollars (excluding water)


DIY replacement recipe

Humic Acid 80% (leonardite) 125.76 grams
1.2 grams sodium benzoate (as a preservative)
top up with RO water to 4L mark

2.5 - 5.0 ml per liter in Hydroponics
5.0 ml per liter in soil

to be use in both veg and bloom cycle

Crys on the coco recipe u posted, did you make that in hydrobuddy?
Not sure why but hydrobuddy will NOT use Mag Nitrate at all when selected with our other salts. Ive tried tweaking it differnt ways, ie copy weights to salts tab per a tutorial then went in half on the two salts and nothing changes..It just loves mgso4 and caNo3 though..I swear with hydrobuddy those are the two salts I see it using the most...

Hydrorookie.. You seem to really know your stuff here. :dance Any help is appreciated... I see your posts here and there, just curious if you had any formulas yourself for growing mj.:thinking

I found the same issue with hydro buddy. I worked it out through salts formulation...and still ended up with some variation (small imho). It may be a 'poor selection of salts' on my part...but for a super simple recipe, that costs a few dollars per litre, I'm not gonna worry about it too much.

I've been thinking about something JK said. He likes 1:2.5 N:K ppm. i.e. 100 ppm N and 250 ppm K. In weight ratio this works out to 1:3 N:K2O. it occurred to me that reeferman's love potion has that ratio - 1.7-10-5.1 is 1-5.88-3. h&g aqua flakes is 1-2-3 in week 6 with shooting powder. botanicare uses K from 2.5 to 5 times N.

OK..atleast the problems Im posting im not the only one experiencing them...Ya that must of took a bit more work than normal.
Thanks Crys...Ya i have a seperate excel spread (NOT PH) for my salts that I use next to HB to check math etc etc..your numbers are good...
Im thinking maybe that HB uses MGSO4(12$-50lbs) and CAN03(20$-50lb) more than the other salts is cause they are the most cheapest salts?
Ya crys its really a trip to start comparing ratios and we start seeing trends that lie all over the companies. I like to compare to old formulations as well in the RESH book. Lots of great info there...

Hydrobuddy uses any salt you give it, even ones you make yourself.. It assigns a priority to first the main salts, then it uses the first salt it comes to to solve the problem. I do understand the priorities a little you can too by playing with it and I am guessing here, but I am pretty good at guessing ;)

Example using Mag Nitrate to get CoCo Blloom @ 57L (Check your own math I did this quick)

Salts to Dissolve Directly

Mg(NO3) mass = 19.24 g
KH2PO4 mass = 22.27 g
KNO3 mass = 9.89 g
Ca(NO3)2_yara mass = 81.4 g


So therefore if you want to use two salts such as MgNO3 and MgSO4 then you will have to decide how much PPM you need from the important one, then use that weight.. Use the option to copy the weights to the "salts used" tab and then change them as you want there and get your ppm results back in the "salt to formulations" tab. It has been awhile but I played with this before, course now I have my formula down pretty good

now for some basic chemisty or math.
Calcium Nitrate is 15-0-0
Monopotassium Phosphate is 0-52-34
Potassium Sulfate is 0-0-50

so, between these 3 you can match any desired NPK ratio, ie 1 part of each formula above =
15-0-0
0-52-34
0-0-50 +

15-52-84

reduce that down by a dilution of 5, and you get
3-10-17 NPK

keep in mind you also have to add the trace + magnesium, which is usually pretty stable between all formulas or as needed by Cannabis

i was just looking at the mulder chart, and i think something clicked. sulfur is not on there...and phosphorus antagonizes magnesium. i wonder if it's actually magnesium that gives flavour, and high P ferts diminish mag, and in turn lower flavour? i read a test years ago how cow manure gives the best flavour, and rock phosphorus gives big, low odour buds.

second question: would a high PK fert through week 6, then a low P fert the last week or two give you the size AND flavour?

Chrysmatic I ran your 'theory' past Fatman and he came back with this>

Organic fertilizers (fish fertilizer, manure) applied foliar usually give the best flavor, but that is due to residual on the plants surface not due to plant uptake. Sulfur is generally never in shortage so it usually is ignored as far as flavor. It is evident when sulfur is defficient because it cause a general yellow of all foliage, especially new foliage. Phosphorus imparts a chemical burming bite, magneisum and potash cause a sweet taste. High nitrogen means a chlorophly taste will usually predominate. Consider which nutrients are most mobile within the plant, Nitrogen and Phosphorus. They are what is lowered by flushing. The flushing diminishes the bite, dark ash and green taste. Calcium is not mobile and magnesium and potash are not highly mobile.

Anyone mix their own foliage feed for week 4 plus bloom?
What is a wetting agent can I make this?

wetting agent for some is Budweiser...hehe..

For plants it's the thing that helps the foliar feed 'stick' to the leaves. A few drops of liquid dish soap in a litre of water works

I've heard this too, just using dish soap as a ghetto type of surficant.

Also, for foliars, I've heard you can just use your normal nutrient formula, but dilute 4x or more for foliar application.

OK I've never used the ghetto method. I guess it works..mostly I use Coco Wet. I think I've had the bottle for like 3 years.

It doesn't take much and i only use it when i'm trying to eradicate mites in conjunction with Einsteins Oil. I used to foliar all the time..not so much lately since I REALLY never saw much dif'

If my plants are sick that's when I mostly foliar but if they look good I don't hassle 'em

I sprayed my plants with 1/10th milk to water ratio to kill Powdery Mildew. The drops dried onto the leafs and they are white marks, not damage but just the milk drying dots.. So I am considering doing a foliage feeding, I mixed it at 1/4th ratio and tested on a veg plant last night.. She looked the same this morning and that's what I really wanted just a reason to spray, something to test it on and now I will do a test flowering plant to see if it removes the milk dots.. Otherwise I wouldn't foliage feed I am too lazy.

P.S. I don't actually have Powdery Mildew it is a preventative, this strains is very sensitive to it.

hmm instead of coating your plants leaves with cow puss you might consider gettin' a sulfur vaporizor

Good suggestion thanks I will if I have a problem I thought if I did preventative I would be ok, which is true I am but I agree your way would be easier.
