Is the purpose of purchasing regular seeds versus feminized, auto, because people plan on cloning ? I don’t get it why companies offer “regular” seeds. Or why growers purchase them. Sorry don’t get it, seems like more of a hassle. And waste…

Some people want to breed/cross them and need males.

Having seeds in the buds isn't such a bad thing, it was normal. Late 80's would be first time I had buds without seeds. Sensi it was called. If you're growing outside, space is not so important so a few males isn't a problem. But in a grow room space is more valuable, especially if you have a tiny room like me. On the plus side you always have seeds and you can try crossing strains.

There never used to be feminised strains only regular photos.
In short Dutch passion had some success before then however it wasn’t till 1997-1998 the fem seeds were Introduced commercially
Alought there was some auto breading In the 1980-1990s.
Auto flowering feminized seeds only became widely available in the late 2000s to early 2010s, combining feminized genetics with autoflowering traits
A lot of older growers still prefer regular seeds as well as having them with the intention of breeding their own.
Some growers really prefer to grow there own crosses witch has the added benefit of saving money on seeds.
Also some strains have never been comedically available as fems.

I actually remember the conversations about cracking the fem on overgrow before it got busted, the overgrow now is nothing like it used to be & a lot of the big names were younger & quite a few at that time were still down to earth on there chatting to each other & normal members about breeding in general the fems at first I think they were trying to use gibberellic acid however it wasn’t reliable and had drawbacks.

Mid 70's was when sinsemilla first started to show up. The Old Humboldt skunk sinsemilla, we used to find the occassional seed, and coveted them!

Also landrace seeds are almost always regs for obvious reasons.
