Yep, they were two shoots that came off another plant. The cool thing is after they fruit they put out new shoots. The shoots put on fruit right away. If you plant the pineapple tops it takes a couple years before they fruit.
ya, thats what I heard, if you take the top off and try to get em going it takes a long time...I tried it once and did like a tator in a pitcher of water and seemed like forever and gave up on it, it did start to make roots but by then it was winter time and too cold to put outdoor... cool plants tho

I did both. It works either way. Once you get em going you get pineapples every year.
also heard that as well, one plant makes one fruit per year.....how long does it take to start them to get roots going? and how much of the top do you need to leave for the roots to start... like a inch or so?

It takes a couple weeks. When I see some roots I plant them right away. They like soil that drains good. I harvest them when they get that golden color.

didnt try to plant the top, but if I did, do you just put it in veg mode like weed? 18 on , 6 off? and maybe by the time spring comes around can just plant it outdoor? I see urs in a pot....so its portable

I bet it would work. I'm in So Cal so it's good all year. The temps don't get much lower than the 30s in the winter and the pineapples handle that no problem.

that was next question....how low can they go...guess snow would fuck em up lol , but if in a pot could bring back in so they didnt freeze... I might try it again, they are a cool plant fer sure....so yours have been in a pot and took 30 degrees no prob? dam , they are grown where it stays pretty much warm all the time, well, above 50 usually, maybe be a cool project to try... love some Pineapple

I bet it would rock. When they get going they do eat nitrogen. I give em a little fish ferts and composted chicken manure maybe once a month.
have the fish ferts ... but chicken sht in the closet wont be cool haha, Ocean Forest should be good enough to get them going for a while , usually at least a month or 2.... then introduce some teas with the fish ...bet it would work, sounds like a challenge for a project..thanks for the info bro...its always a good thing to get first hand knowledge from someone that knows....urs looks like they almost ready to pick, thats another thing, how do you pick the fruit off.....do they just make another one from the same plant again?

When they're done just cut the stalk below the fruit. That plant won't make another one but it'll send out shoots. You can slice the shoots off the mother and plant them
