On Sunday, Oct 2nd, it started out to be an experment with sorting seeds, the float or sink method. I took a bunch of my Finnish Frost seeds sorted into dark seeds, light seeds and control (unsorted) seeds and put them into a 3 glasses of RO water. Not a single one sunk immediatly, but no biggie, some of the info on this method of sorting suggested leaving the seeds in the water for up to 4 hours. Slowly they began to sink and 4 hours later aproximatly 1/2 the seeds has sunk. So I scooped the floaters out and set them aside on a paper towel. Then I poured out the sinkers over a strainer and set them aside. The sinkers were over all darker, but not all of them were. A few were light in color and many of the floaters were as dark as the darkest sinkers, sooooo, hmmmm. I spread the seeds out to dry while I contemplated my next move. So far, this experiment was not going as I had hoped.
Oct 5th I decided to take 20 sinkers, 10 dark and 10 light in color, 20 floaters with 10 light and 10 dark, and 20 control seeds with 10 floaters and 10 sinker seeds and put all 60 seeds on 6 paper towels and in baggies to see what happened. Of the 60 seeds, all 30 sinkers germinated, control, darks and light. The 30 floaters, control had 9 germinate, darks had 7 germinate and light colored had 9 germinate for a total of 25 of the 30 floaters. Go figure? Yes, the sinkers were great with 100% gremination, reguardless of how light in color the were. That said, I would not throw out floater seeds that test out at just over 83% germination. So much for the float or sink method for me.
OK, so now I have 55 germinated seeds, now what? Well, now that I know they are viable seeds, perhaps I should test them, since I hadn't had time to grow out any of them yet. But winter was just around the corner so I decided to see just how fast I could grow out 12 of them. They are regular seed and we have a 12 plant total count limit with a max of 6 in bloom here in Colorado, so it worked out. I potted up 12 seedlings with the only intent for this grow was to test these seeds for flower trichome production. That's all, so the seedlings had 3 weeks, 21 days on 18/6, and I would flip them.
Oct 25th and time to top them. All 12 were topped after the 3rd internode and had the laterals (branches) forming at the first true leaves removes so that each plant had only 4 growing points. Here are before and after topping pictures.
As this was not originally planned to be a grow, I didn't do much documentation. The next pictures I have is of the 6 girls. Yes, there were 6 males and 6 females. Here are the 6 girls on Dec 10th outside in the sun while I was cleaning there tent.
Now it's days befor harvest, Dec 19th and if you look closely you will see serious signs of Calcium deficiency. Shame on me!!! These are single pheno pictures of all 6 gals.
And finally the trichome production on each of the 6 pheno's. The bud picture is from the same day and is corrisponding to the plant above, 1=1, 2=2,........
...oops, the forum will only allow me to upload 20 images, so to be continues in the next post..........
