Medical Marijuana Ad on Television
Posted: 08:47 AM ET
Sacaramento’s Fox Affiliate KTXL broadcast what is believed to be the first paid advertisement for a medical marijuana dispensary. The 30-second ad, paid for by Sacramento-based "CannaCare" and produced by KTXL, shows various people delivering testimonials on the benefits of marijuana when used for medicinal purposes. Text at the bottom of the advertisement indicates that marijuana can be used in the relief of many diseases and illnesses, including diabetes, HIV, Hepatitis C and hypertension among others.

Marijuana is not shown in the advertisement, and the word "marijuana" is never used. Instead, patients and the ad itself refer to pot as "cannabis."

Of course, right now, this is as controversial as when cigarette, condom and Viagra commericials first hit television.

So, What do you think? Does medical marijuana have a place on television in California?
It’s legal, after all. Or are some things best left off the airwaves? Post your comments here and Kyra will read them in the 10am hour of CNN Newsroom.

Here in MI. they've been airing commercials for getting you're med card, it's pretty wild. I was trippin out the first time I saw it and almost didn't believe it.

Link please? I visited some friends the other day and the wife watches the local Fox channel and she told me about it. She was laughing because of the way they said "cannabis". She said they pronounced it "can-NA-bis", or something like that. I owe them a couple of jars of homemade pickles, they've sent me home twice with homemade blueberry jam now.

Moe, that is pretty wild. Michigan...?

Nice, I'm particularly pleased with the use of 'cannabis' instead of MMJ....noice! Its not going anywhere, so if they can put together legitimate ads that don't show pot or say marijuana but promote the biznass....sounds killer....

Sweet and it doesn't even look like one of those bullshit infomercials with paid actors. Real patients real shit, I dig it.

I am impressed. Coming from LA I've been blown away with how HOKEY local advertising is up here in the Sact'o region. I mean just incredibly hokey. This ad has been 'done up' by real pros.
