I am starting my first greenhouse grow and I have a few questions for you guys. 1) how long should I keep the lights on, sunrise at 6:30 and sets 5:15... Should i keep the lights on till mid night or can I turn them off before. 2) around when should i start blacking the greenhouse out, what month so I can continue flowering. thank you

You definitely want 18 hours of light to keep them from flowering early. So adjust your light timer accordingly. Hope you got heat inside there it's kinda cold where I'm at lol. Blacking it out depends on how big you want em to be. If you started them now from seed you should be getting enough sunlight in late April depending on where you live. Check the outdoor grow thread there is a sticky there that explains natural sunlight cycles according to what part of the country you live in. This will give you a better plan of attack!

Yeah my bad, I was just being lazy. So I started making the greenhouse and I am using 3/4 inch pvc and 3.5 mil plastic. I was wondering if the plastic was too thick? Also any advice on what I should run? Pretty much iyo would cookies and og's do fine in a greenhouse? Also I am in socal, its not really cold at all :)

No, that's not too thin or too thick (as far as the plastic goes). But this time of year you're going to have to watch for mold. Supplemental lighting, as dutch says, will keep clones from flipping to flower and then revegging as the days continue lengthening. If you're starting with seeds then you don't need to mess around with supplemental lighting at all, just let 'em do their thing. In fact, if you're in SoCal then you don't even really need to stick 'em in a GH unless you've got visibility issues and the like.

Alright cool. So I have the house wrapped in plastic and clones transplanted, Some are taking off and some are stressed. Only problem I have had is a rip and im wondering if you guys have ideas for a door? Want to seal the gh up, also would run co2 be a huge waste of money?

I thought CO2 was for sealed environments. I'm not sure you can have that thing truly sealed.

I'm not sure I understand the question regarding a rip and a door.

Sorry seamaiden, I was def too high to be posting last night. Yeah I just have a rip in my plastic on the top, thinking about saving up and buying some quality plastic from forever flowering for the top and shade cloth 30% on the sides. Right now I just have the end of the house just open and I lift the plastic to get in and out. I am looking for a door idea, kinda for security and keep it more-so sealed up so I dont have to worry about bugs like catapilars in the summer. Hope that is easier to understand.

Ken, That wouldnt stess them out? So this storm ripped my bootleg greenhouse to shit. So I have a few questions, how do you guys get your plastic to stay connected to the house. I used staples and ducked taped over them so it wouldnt rip out but obviusly that didnt hold up. Thanks in advance for the advice.

I buy 11 ml greenhouse plastic..it lasts 5-6 years here in CO sun and winds. great stuph.' Greenhouse plastic is much better than the cheap home depot crap. They also make it in a 6 ml which would work. I paid 100 bucks for a roll of it.

I stapled my plastic down and then covered them with thin fur strips which are screwed in place. This holds the plastic down nicely.I cut the fur strips out of 2x4 lumber and made them about 3/16" thick. If I ever had to repair or change the plastic I could take out the screws, remove the fur strips and make repairs quite easily. This GH has withstood 70 mph winds and the CO winters...and the hot sun in summer. It cost me approx 800 bucks in materials.

Nope it doesn't stress them for some reason it works really well
I do like Kolah, furring strips to hold the plastic down
On hoop hoses folk cut pieces of bigger PVC to snap over the frame
I just use the big plastic "roach clips"

cool gh Kolah, I am working with a hoop house hybrid thing. So i decided after reading a ton of threads to just zip tie the plastic to the pvc then use gorilla tape over the zip tie. let me know what you guys thing. Also I found this zipper thing, going to use that as a door. I also am using this led light, do you guys think it would be enough light for 8 plants, reason I ask is because im not sure that it is??? Also feel free to share some gh bud porn, for inspiration.

ken is absolutely correct about light cycle.

You can keep them in veg many very easy and inexpensive ways. I only run my lights 5-6pm and then 30 minutes at midnight and again from 5-7am. And that is actually overkill.

Keep a fan on a humistat and thermostsat that blows out to control humidity and temp. works great. I have never had mold in a greenhouse. Slight pm sometimes but not this year.

@knnthc93 -- the goal is to stop the plastic from flapping. What if you simply bent more pipe over the top and as close as possible to the supporting pipe, along with the tape and zip ties?

Do something, anything other than that zipper. such a pain in the ass.. I'm pretty sure they are meant for like a one time use situation.

this may count as porn, a chocolate chunk closing in on the finish outside right now. No supplemental lighting and no supplemental heat. Doing great, this is about 8 weeks today. The pic isn't the best, but maybe still inspiring.
