Hey guys -

First timer here, from what I’ve read on the forums it looks like I have made a few of the common mistakes.
I started my seeds in paper towels, transferred to solos and from there into 1 Gal Pots. I think I was a bit pre-emptive in transferring from solo cups - but were here now!

When I transferred them I Used Coast of Maine Organic blend to fill the pots.

I believe the yellowing in the first set of leaves is from the hot soil? I also have a lot of LED for my 2x4 ( 7ft tall) tent so I’m also trying to avoid light burn.
I currently have my Optic 320H on about 20% light with a little bit more blue than red. Lux app on phone reading around 10k at plant height. Light approx 3 1/2 feet above plants. Running 24/0 in veg since I have No temp issues with the LED
Approx 2 weeks ago I germ’d these guys. (4 Runtz seeds)
Keeping temps between 70-80 MAX and RH holds between 50-60%
2 6” fans in each corner keeping a light breeze on the seedlings (both on low currently)

I have been watering when dry every 2-5 days with my Well water ( I live far outside of town and Tapped into a mountain spring. PH is just below 8. All I use is a sediment filter for my drinking water, so I figure I will also be ok feeding this to plants. )

Planning on some light LST to help increase yields on this first run- I’ve been debating if I should attempt Fimming/topping also but am leaning on just LST and a small amount of topping. Don’t want to screw things up!

Do you guys think I have this accurately diagnosed?
Hot soil & little too much light? Over next 2 weeks I should be slowing increasing my light output I think?

Thanks for any help or tips you guys may have! Really enjoying this experience thus far.

doesnt look light burned. I dont know enough about soil to comment there but youre right you up potted a little early. youll see slower growth as the plant focuses more on developing roots. just make sure youre not over watering now because the pot size is much greater than the plants root zone.
if you can keep the humidity up around 60-65 that would be better than the 50 for this stage of growth. temp is good, 80 degrees sounds hot but with LED your leaf surface temp is actually lower than it would be if you were using hps so no worry there.

Thanks for the input!

Ill get a small humidifer setup to boost up to 60-65% for veg!

Not too hot soil or bright light. Looks to me like you transplanted too soon and damaged the rootball in the process. Once they take hold they should be fine. I'd test the water ppm.

I think the irrigation is off a lil. Did you soak the soil when you transplanted?

When plants are that small, I always soak the soil til a very lil bit of run off then wait 4-6 days for it to dry back sufficiently, but the amount of time depends on multiple factors.

Sounds like you've got hard water and I'm pretty sure the Coast of Maine soil is calcium rich as well. Might get a calcium hardness test kit to see how much Ca your well water is adding; if it's over 100ppm it might not be right for that soil (or visa versa). Too much calcium can lock out other key nutrients including magnesium and potassium.

I did soak the soil before transplanting until there was runoff and then as delicately as possible took them out of the solo’s

I struggled quite a bit keeping the soil “together” so I think growsince79 is spot on about damaging root balls.

ill check on the water ppm & calcium suggestions and get back!!

thanks everyone for the quick replies

Next time wait till after 4 nodes or when the cup is full of roots. Wait until half way between waterings so everything comes out in one piece. Lightly prune a few side roots and place it in a pre watered pot with pre formed hole in the new container. Then don't water for a few days. When done correctly, there is no shock.

Your soil is not hot. The opposite is the case actually.
Soil pH should be 6.3 - 6.5

bumped up the humidity to 60-70% per VPD charts for veg

this morning I did notice some more spots on second set of leaves (second node correct term?) near tips

ill pickup a water test kit today as well as some ph down. sounds like the water is the issue. When I watered yesterday I did half distilled and half tap to try and cut down the calcium. Ph was a little lower around 7.2

looked back through the watering guidelines for soil and re-read those!

thanks everyone, lots of great info.

new spots as is this morning

The calcium level was high! Around 150 PPM

Our shower filter cuts it down to around 50 PPM and I watered today with that
attached a few more pictures of plants today. One is showing quite a bit of discoloration on top leaves, while the strongest plant is showing only mild spotting.
Interesting!!
soil runoff was 6.67

should I clip the bottom most leaves that are just about completely shriveled and discolored across all 4 plants?

Here’s a few pics of the babies 1 week later.

Definitely Growing out of it.
Continuing to water every 3-4 days as the soil is dry and pots lighten up significantly. Using the basic filtered water from shower that cuts the total hardnesss down to between 50-75 ppm. Has definitely had an effect. No added nutes to this point but thinking in about 2 weeks starting Humbolts Secret of A+B & golden tree. Don’t want to change too many things at once though!

Found it pretty interesting one of the plants seems to of “topped” itself due to the dying top set of leaves. (Group shot - top middle)

On the biggest plant (furthest right in the group) I believe the 4th node is popping up and I should start LST on just that plant?
I’m still pretty low on the dial for my lights.(Around 25-30%, Ive slowly raised at each water to keep lux around 10k at canopy.) Should I keep them where they are or start slowly increasing as veg continues?

Thank you guys for the tremendous input! Wouldn‘t be here without ya!

Not looking good after today’s peek into the tent!

I was gone 2 days camping - came home &
Temp was 78 and humidifier ran out of water; only 50% humidity -
should be holding at 60-65%

Soil still has some moisture at knuckle depth; but the top is dry. I watered the morning before I left(just 2 days) so thinking I’ll water again in the morning.

Going to browse around the infirmary but posting here first- anyone know what’s wrong?
Quite a few leaf tips point down- too much wind?
Some new yellow spotting on newer growth (not the newest though, which is interesting!)

Hello... Big time Mag def.
Check your pH to make sure you're not locked out.
Checked PH on runoff and input today

looks like my ph input has gone up some more. Input water (after my basic filter) still PH 7.9 @20c

runoff on each plant
6.85
6.77
6.74
6.77
All @21.5-22*c
going to check into the PH range for Mg uptake

I see mixed opinions on using PH up/down with soil, but in my case I think I will need to pick some up!

Should I also swap to distilled water until I can get a better filter on way?

I guess the big question is am I locked out from nutrients due to PH
Or
deficiencies and start feeding?

Few more pics to help.
I tried to show one plant at a time & included the runoff PH from the watering just before
I’ll pickup a soil PH tester today when I run to town and post that result also!
