Oh and I’m running gh 3 part and the Useless formula as it’s bulletproof as far as I remember and I’d like to keep it simple this first round. I’m also running powerSi at .5ml per gallon.
If anybody has any recommendations for other additives that work well with the useless formula I have 2 free dosers to use

I started out by flushing my
Hugo blocks with 2 gallons of tap water ph’d to 5.5 to run as much lime out of them as possible. I used a hose end meter to track the flow of water to the blocks.

next I filled up five 55 gallon totes with
Useless formula week one veg 5/2.5/2.5 ph’d to 5.5 and soaked the already flushed blocks for 30 minutes.

transplanted into the room under the fluence lights dimmed down to 15 percent because these things can cook plants like nothing else
( I know from the first batch of clones getting roasted at 50 percent when the lights were 3 ft above the clones.)

co2 is at 450 ppms for now.

I still haven’t hooked up the drainage plumbing or the dosing system or any of the trolmaster shit so for the first two weeks and two watering sill be top feeding from 55 gallon cans with a hose, and will be using an igs controller for my sentinel propane burner.

Nice clean setup! Fyi, Grodan changed their binder a few years ago and you dont have to rinse the lime out anymore. See for yourself, toss a dry hugo into solution ph 5.5 and soak it for a few hrs and test it, the ph wont change one bit.
They changed it for everything too, mini blocks, hugos, slabs.. everything.

The last post was day one. December 6th.

here they are 3 days later on December 9th

going straight into Hugo blocks may not be the best route at these things hold so much water. I’m seeing my ppms come out about the same but ph has risen to 6 so It seems the massive flush and soak was not quite enough but things look fine. I will run 4” blocks or maybe the 6x6x4 next run.

I just did a foliar with vector fogger with GO Bio Weed (10ml/gal) and Ful Power fulvic acid (10ml/gallon)

Dirtbag, I’m not sure what the deal is because my ph has risen after 3 days but ppms hasn’t dropped as the plants are tiny and aren’t taking up a whole lot yet.I’m an ok t to post the next 12 days below to get up to current

Yeah not sure man. I tested this out a few grows back using hugos and sure enough, drop a dry one into solution and ph doesnt change. Everest made a big announcement about it on his channel when they made the change. Not sure why they did it but i think it was to compete with coco since a lot of folks were getting turned off by the presoak, when you can just use canna coco right out of the bag.

here’s day 5 things were going well and the I started getting some minor claw and droop and some light green growth. My Co2 controller malfunctioned and dosed them hard somewhere above 5000ppms but I caught it within about an hour or two. I didn’t think Co2 could have that affect , so I started treating/thinking lockout overwater (which may have been happening to some degree)
Dimmer is now set to 25 percent.
plants perked back up the next day which is the 3rd through 6th photos.

blocks are still soaked 🤪

Hmm weird, im no hugo expert so cant say for sure. They made the change 5 or 6 years ago so id be surprised but i guess nothing is impossible. Mine had 6 channels on the bottom.
If you have a spare empty block it would be easy to test.

Here they are at day 8 of veg lights at 35 percent now and Co2 at 800ppms
I was concerned about the ph drifting up so I mixed a bit stronger and watered 120ml per plant, as Useless stated about his formula that when the mix is weak the ph has a propensity to rise. Regardless of ph of runoff and being a bit damp. I’m minding my VPD like crazy and they are looking happy . The canopy is stable at 77 degrees lights on and 65 RH. I drop it to 72 degrees and 65 RH at lights off.
mom on 17/7 btw.
Oh and the roots are busting out of the blocks. I forgot to mention that I put a half tsp of great white in each hole
At transplant.
They look like they could be happier and a bit light at the tops so I did a foliar with Epsom salt at 1/2 tbsp per gallon.

Everything was looking good and I bumped the lights up to 45 percent on Tuesday along with Co2 to 850 . On Wednesday I bumped the lights to 55 percent and Co2 to 1000ppm. And everything looked great. Thursday I bumped lights to 65 percent and Co2 to 1100
A few hours into the day they were looking like they had the a little of the claw/ and some calmag looking shit going on I even thought maybe a lil ironand zinc too.
I did a foliar of 1tbsp per
gallon Epsom salt along with 5ml of
5% calcium chloride (down to earth Liquid Calcium)

also they appeared to go to sleep about 6 hours before lights off on Thursday here are photos from 3 hours before lights off and right at lights off (day 11)

I decided vent the room fully all night and drop the lights back to 35 percent and Co2 to 650ppm the next day

Yesterday I woke up and things looked much better after a night of fresh air but still not right . At this point I dialed Co2 and lights back to 35 percent and 650ppms and I rang up an old friend who studied Ag at ucdavis and has been in the industry for years as a consultant developing customized nutrients and really knows his shit. We decided to check runoff again even though blocks weren’t ready to be watered again.
This is where is gets interesting. Ph at 7
Ppms down to 330 from 600.

I did two test plants where I mixed
Useless formula week 2 (800ppm)
and useless formula week 3 (1000ppm)
Both at ph5.5

the first plant I flushed with 1.5 gallons of week 2 (800ppm) until runoff ph was 5.5 and ppms came out the same

The second plant I flushed 1.5 gallons of week 3 (1000ppms) until runoff came out the same.

I captured and separated the runoff every .5 gallons and made notes of the change.
on each plant.
it took until 1.5 gallons to get there.

here are therunoff values incrementally until 1.5 gallons and equal
Useless formula 12/6/3

Grow 450ppm
Micro 460ppm
Bloom 90 ppm
Drip clean 20ppm
1020ppm total
Ph 5.3

Input
1020ppm
5.3ph

Runoff

.5 gallon
480ppm
6.6

1 gal
860ppm
6.1ph

1.5 gal
1030ppm
5.5ph

now I was going to wait 24 hours and watch the two isolated plants that were flushed with full strength nutes but meanwhile, remember that lights were dimmed almost in half as well as Co2.

but halfway through the day it seemed they were all bouncing back not just the onesthat I balanced the solution in the blocks.
Here are pics

First three are 1 hour after lights
pics 4 and 5 are three hours after lights on
The last two pics are an hour before lights off

All in all everything came flourishing back just one day with the lights and Co2 dialed back.

Day 13 veg.
This morning I woke up and the plants looked amazing considering the shit they looked like just 36 hours ago .
The plants I have the full strength flush seemed unaffected and the same as pants that were not flushed. No burned tips no nothing. It appears as the ph swing is somewhat normal as they eat but it was the lights and or Co2 being too much for them at this size. I’m sending a feet solution sample a runoff sample and a tissue sample to lab for analysis so I have a sure idea of exactly what they want and need.
Here’s a pic from mid day today.

So I’ve had some speed bumps but having not touched a plant in 6 years and have not stayed up with reading and knowledge it was somewhat expected. So this morning and even at midday the plants were looking great again and I was going to flush tomorrow with full strength ideas formula week 3 since it looks like the test plant was happy.
here comes another big speed bump.
I left the house for 6 hours and my
igs-061 Co2 controller took a shit again and dosed the plants with Co2 until the 20lb propane tank was empty, and I was going to out my fresh air dump in tomorrow (a day too late)
Wethe plants were praying and fully happy when I left and I came back to this shit!

I opened the room and brought in fresh air for the last 4 hours and the lights just went off, I also smashed the shit out of the plugngrow igs-061 and tossed it into the trash.
I will cut in my fresh air dump and set up the trolmaster unit tomorrow.

stay tuned , and if anybody has any experience with Co2 issues like this I’d love to hear about it. I will wait to flush that solution now until the plants bounce back from the shock that they are in.

cheers!

If there’s anything I can do to help them snap back from this as quickly as possible I’d be more than grateful for the wisdom.

I’ll test one tomorrow, but I’m gonna call grodan on Monday and ask them about my blocks having three big channels vs the 5 smaller ones on the blocks at the shop.
Also, you ever use or know of anyone using rockwool conditioner. I remember using it on my 1.5”s about 10 years ago but none of the shops near me have it or know what I’m talking about .
I know that soaking 288 6x6 cubes at a time is a bitch, and after doing these I was already considering char coir cubes
😂

Was your controller out of warranty?
Mine never failed in two years but in these days im thinkin to get a C02 meter with alarms setting and set it in the room to avoid the risk of entering ina co2 filled room with no vents ...entering and shutin the door behind you it could kill you!!!
Ive never seen the effect of such a huge dump of co2 but i think that they will bounce back quickly!! cause they were lookin very good before this accident!
