Hello my fellow green thumbs. So I've decided to start cloning for the very first time, currently using a homemade humidity dome that I'm debating on rebuilding due to the glue not properly sealing but it still keeps the humidity high. The white stuff is coucking, probably wasn't the best thing to use for sealing it but it's all I had besides construction adhesive and unfortunately ran out of hot glue sticks.
First time cloning

Took this clipping yesterday and it looks like it's doing good, it hasn't wilted yet and is standing strong. Unfortunately do not have the money to buy rockwool cubes and rooting hormones so I'm just using honey as a rooting hormone and potting soil as the substrate. Crossing my fingers and hoping this works out, I'll keep updating as I go along. But let me know what you guys think!

Leave it now but usually I would pull those bottom 2 leaves off. You dome looks absolutely fine. The most important thing with cloning (well 2 things) are keep the soil as tight to the stem as possible and keep the media warm. Close to 80f if ya can. I have a controlled room now but I used to do them how I do seeds. Put the cloner on the tv box lol. If you put a cloth folded in half on the top then place the cloner on top it's perfect. Don't water the leaves. Generally if you have fog on the walls your good.

Once you see root you can pull the cover off a bit or prop it open a bit and over a few days a bit more than remove it. They should be ready to transplant then. Usually 10days and you good with the info I gave ya. I just had one show a tiny root in just over 5days under very little light for 18/6

Okay I'll go ahead and take those two leafs off, I just did another cutting and I'll do the same with that one. I have a heating pad on the bottom that I put on medium/high temp but it turns off automatically after an hour so I gotta turn it back on Everytime lol.

As for the light I'm using two 26w CFL lights and I turn it on at 6:30-7 am and than turn it off before I go to sleep which is around 8:30-10pm, are the lights I'm using and the time I have them on/off okay?

It's already in there I would just leave the one.

Keep them under the same lighting you have the plant you took them from imo

Hey guys, so update on my attempt at cloning and so far it looks like it's doing okay, hasn't wilted yet but does look a little droopy on the fan leaves

I'm hoping there's nothing wrong with it, the other cutting that I took definitely isn't doing so well, it's been like this since I took the cutting two days ago but it's a lot more wilted now, should I leave it be or should I take it out if it is for sure dead?

Hey thic , you should put your wilting clone back in the homemade dome , it's not dead
There is a chance it can remain wilted for days then perk up and root , give the box 18 hrs of indirect light , you don't need much light just 18 hrs are important , also watch that heating pad temp , it could be hotter than you think inside the dome ......

Air out the dome frequently

Hey guys, here's another update of how my cloning has been going. Today is officially 1 week since I started this one, not sure if it's established roots yet since I can't see any roots coming out.

As for the second cutting, it hasnt improved. It's still wilted and looks dead but it's still moist and hasn't dried out yet but mushrooms are starting to grow from the soil 😂

First one is rooted. The second is not. A very and I mean very light tug on the stem you will see the first stays (do not pull until you hear ripping) and the second will pull right out.

I'm just gonna put a disclaimer saying don't do this because you can easily see that.

Soil looks very dry in the second. Moisture should be a bit higher for clones imo. No real risk of over watering until they have roots. Soil very moist and tight to the stem. Buy moist I don't mean soup but it should not dry out at all.

Thanks for the help Aqua! I have one quick question though, with the rooted clone could I take it out of the humidity dome and either use my 600W LED grow light or should I start putting it into direct sunlight and have it start getting used to the sunlight?

Either but at some point your going to need to harden it off. It's the UV from the sun it has to get used to. Personally I'm an indoor grower so I have no direct experience doing so. But if you place it in a semi shaded area to start it will ease the transition. Or a few hrs a day increasing a bit each day. Someone could probably answer this better from experience.

i grew up some clones this year outside like you , if its too hot outside ,even water wont help you in fact too much water will make them struggle too. Outside they need good moisture ,and not too much heat i always keep them in shade. but you can do it a certain time , when season is on they wont root ,becaouse of climate .

Oh and if it's rooted take the dome off... You don't wanna create issues with mold. It will appreciate a higher humidity for the first while though. 65-70% would be perfect but anything over 50% will do
