Hello All,

VA grower here that will keep it short and sweet. This is my first legal grow as the VA laws just changed and my first living organic soil grow. I am roughly 2.5 weeks into flower so I will dump what I have so far. I am using a version of Clackmus Coots mix from Build A Soil. I had what I thought was a bulb might issue to start and treated with diatomaceous earth but lost a seed.

Other details:
-1 Zkittelz freebie from Herbies seed bank
-1 Dutch Passion Strawberry Cough
-1 Barneys Runtz seed died as a seedling
-HLG B-Spec veg light
-HLG R-Spec flower light
-direct bury germination

*I apologize for not taking good documentation, but it is what it is.

-SC roughly 2-3 weeds from sprout above ground

- Zkittelz for for now to be known as Zkit at the same 2-3 week time
-Had some issues which I think were nutrient deficiency as they stayed in the solo cup longer than I wanted soused up soil

After finally getting all the components and letting the soil cook for 2 weeks (wanted longer) I transplanted them into their final homes. The bags are suppose to be 5 gallons but I put more than 7 in each and they still are uneven and bulging and honestly I hate these fabric pots.

I was hoping for explosive growth and fast change in the nutrient deficiency but it really did not. Here they are roughly 5 weeks into veg and 2 weeks into new homes.

- Was and have been half tempted to chop these plants and start over with a different approach numerous times. Have not done it yet, but did say what the hell let me throw the kitchen sink at them.

After topping and some more LST they started to look much better and enjoying the new soil

As you can tell I have a gnat problem that to this day I cannot shake. I have tried neem oil at lights off, DIA Earth, letting pots dry out a bit.

-Built a scrog that is able to add a second layer to that fits perfectly into the new home

- I have them still under the B-Spec with a 18 - 6 schedule, but started to turn on the R-Spec to add more light and get them use to red spectrum

Made a shelf to raise the SC and started tucking the plants under the screen

They were taking WAYYYYYY too long to veg, were not spreading well especially the SC and I was getting that itchy finger to chop them so I said to flower they go.

I waited 2 weeks into flower and I did a defoliation and have been been feeding with 1 tbs open sesame per gallon 2 times a week for the first 2 weeks of flower. This is where we are currently in the grow.

I do have a question if anyone is actually reading. Will it harm them to add more blue light in?

Cheers,
Cas

Looking killer man! Excellent LST and DIY scrog too. Those look like some happy and healthy plants.

I'm going to be keeping an eye on your DP SC because that's been on my short list for grow #2. 👍

Not sure what you mean but if your just speaking blue in general no it won't. It may have some effects on the morphology like shorter node spacing and reducing stretch a touch... overall just promotes more compact growth. Not exactly that simple but that's the short answer.

Tldr: intensity over spectrum in almost all cases until you are reaching very high ppfd.

Welcome to the Farm! Fellow VA grower as well. I have a grow journal in my signature if you ever are bored and got some time to kill.

Your grow is looking good. Two nice strain choices

I have two beans that I do not plan to use . . . .

Honestly out of the two it has been the most annoying to grow. Its branches hardened much faster so it was hard to LST as much as I would have liked. It also can get a super bad case of claw leaves like super curled.

That being said it is however by far the frostier of the two. In fact that is a perfect segue into week 4 of flower updates, let me show you.

So it sounds like it is better to throw a light not being used as it will not hurt and could only increase available photons, especially if I am past the stretching phase.

Absolutely if you not giving to much. Intensity will always trump spectrum in terms of yield.

Looking fantastic brother.

Thank you so much.

Any inside to the following questions:
-Does it look like light stress with the yellowing of leaves?
-Should I cut a top more of the lower stuff including bud sites
-I am kind of lost in watering. I have been letting dry out a bit to help fight the gnats
-When I do water I have been giving roughly 1 gallon total between the two with 1 tsp of open sesame. They seem to love, but it says stop mid to late flower
-Does it look like I have a cal mag deficiency / should I water with some Epson salt

Thanks in advance

Q-Does it look like light stress with the yellowing of leaves?

A-nope looks like a slight bit of N tox. Not bad but time to dial it back. At this stage They dont need as much.

Q-Should I cut a top more of the lower stuff including bud sites

A-So IMO no to bud sites and I'll explain why. In a sec. Yes to remove and big fans that are unhealthy and not getting light low down on the plant. Now seeing your already well into flower removing those bud sites probably will not benefit you much if at all and may reduce yield. If it was late veg Id say yes but your not so my suggestion is to carry on and defoliate as needed. The type will be ready first and I would harvest them and leave the rest for a week or 2 after to ripen up and then harvest them. So a dual harvest. By most accounts these smaller buds given a week or 2 more end up more potent. I haven't tried this myself as for timeliness and ease because I'm lazy I just strip in veg to remove them and harvest all at once

Q-I am kind of lost in watering. I have been letting dry out a bit to help fight the gnats

A- IMO you don't want to alter your watering. Try adding BTI mosquito dunks or bits and hang up yellow stickes. The BTI is a natural organic product and safe for pet's, plants etc. It's a bacteria that the larvae eat and the toxins they produce kill the larvae. The yellow stickes are to catch the adults instead of spraying in flower. A few ppm I know use BTI as a preventative successfully since they always seem to get them otherwise.

Q-When I do water I have been giving roughly 1 gallon total between the two with 1 tsp of open sesame. They seem to love, but it says stop mid to late flower.

A- I forget the media will answer after I go back and read.

Q-Does it look like I have a cal mag deficiency / should I water with some Epson salt.

A-Not to me. 1 gram of epsom salt per gal may benefit you and won't hurt so your call. Sulfur is a key nutrient in terpene production.
