The metal is 347 alloy stainless steel heated to literally 3000 degrees. Crucible holds 48 pounds, with the tongs it’s a like 60lb pour.
The mold is a custom recipe slurry, it’s basically sand and binders to make a ceramic shell. Mold is heated to 1800. I think these were cover castings for some jet or something. We made over 1000 different parts from probably 15 different metals.
Anyways, relevant to my ass. One the molds cooled a bit to solidify we would take them out to a cooling cart. Had these hooks that grabbed the cup.
So I’m carrying the molds out, and someone walked by me so I had on in front one behind me so I didn’t burn them

. The mold touched the rag in my pocket, then I turned my ass to the fan and it got big.
It wasn’t the first time I had caught on fire at work so I kinda smacked my leg and kept about my day. Then I realized I was still burning.
I knew we had sinks inside, and a hose outside, but I couldn’t choose so I ran in a circle

one of my coworkers tackled my big ass and started hitting me with gloves to put me out.
Anyways, 6 days in the burn ward I was back at it. Did that for just under five years. Manual poor every 10-12 minutes, anywhere between 4-8 hours a day. Now I press buttons for tesla lmao
