Just got done giving the girls their final haircut:

I removed everything below the first net, and very little in between the nets.

I probably could’ve trimmed some more off, but there seems to be good airflow, and all of the flowers are visible to the light now.

I think everything looks okay. I’m sure there will be a little more growth, but heading into the 4th week of flower, I don’t expect too much more.

While trimming, I thought I had spotting some male pollen sacks. Fortunately, on closer inspection, it was the ovules. Scared me for a second haha.

Looks good, that's how I did defol for my scrog, kept most leaves and took smaller shoots and lower stuff off... that way I had plenty to lose towards the end when we stop feeding so heavily or all together, but they still want nutrients. I usually let them suck the leaves dry till they start looking rough then I snip them. Worked well for me... but I dislike the remove healthy fans way of defol... they'll get old and start to look sickly, even before the end, that's when you snip em off.

Yeah, there were a few leaves I didn't want to cut because they looked healthy, but they were kind of small and were mostly hidden anyway. Same with some tops that I hadn't noticed before, and even though they were taller than the lower net, they were very thin and small, so out they went.

Just a small update: herbal pesticide and pest traps came in this evening.

At first I was going to just put in the traps, but I saw a gnat hopping on the soil, so I did a few sprays around the top before I dropped in the traps.

Still not worried about it, though - I just wanna mitigate it before it becomes an actual issue.

Found a few dead gnats in the humidifier spill bucket, and one on the trap (I have 2 in each pot). I didn’t see any flying around, though.

Aside from some leaf tucking, nothing else was done.

Both plants will likely need watering tomorrow. There’s still a little bit of weight and some damp spots down low according to the soil tester.

I also got a microscope attachment for my phone, so here’s a pic of some trichomes

This mornings pic:

Both pots are light, and the soil tester shows the top plant is dry on both sides of the pot (front and back) and the lower pot shows dry in the front, and “normal” in the back, so I’ll do the feeding this afternoon to let the bottom soil dry out a little more.

On the top plant, the bud I tried to pollinate - I wasn’t sure if that bud was ready to be pollinated, and I still don’t think it took. Even though I sprayed / misted the tops and pollen when I uncovered them, I did take another qtip and took some pollen from the one that didn’t take and applied it to the flower above it.

Here’s that flowers pistols now:

This brings me to 2 observations:

1.) I think I now know when to not pollinate a top.

2.) I don’t think water fully deactivates pollen, which makes sense, since it rains outdoors and weed plants still get pollinated.

Knowing this, I do have a *slight* concern other tops or nodes may get pollinated if any had blown off the tops I pollinated. The concern is very little, as I don’t mind more seeds, and at worst, it won’t be the entire crop and likely only a few neighboring tops/nodes.

Today’s pic:

I did a feeding yesterday, and I did notice some gnats hopping around on the soil, and a few more stuck on the traps, so about an hour after watering I gave another treatment with an herbal pesticide spray. I didn’t see anything this morning flying about.

Aside from that, I did notice some tips getting burned. I reduced the light by 1 notch (100% down to 80%) and it seems like that helped on the majority. One set is a little beyond the point of recovery, but they did look better this morning while the others seem to have recovered 99%.

Growth is slowing down as the tops don’t seem much higher than yesterday.

Other than that, I’m just letting them do their own thing.

I've never had issues with fungus gnats but I usually hang sticky traps and do a soil drench with some Azamax to purge the soil of eggs and gnats a week or so before I flip them. I only hung one trap this time and it filled up but the gnat problem never really needed more than that. Next run I'll put them on sticks and stick them near the soil too.

I think my issue is that my sump pump might have some stagnant water and they’re just flying into the tent when I open it.

They don’t seem to be doing damage, and I’ve treated both plants with herbal pesticide for fungus gnats, and they’re still there (albeit in small numbers).

The yellow sticky traps are catching a few, though.

Today’s pic:

Aside from checking in on them, I didn’t do a single thing today.

Pots feel light, but soil tester says “normal” and “wet” on the lower inches on both, so I’m going to wait until tomorrow to water/feed them.

Pic from yesterday:

I only watered the bottom plant yesterday. The top plants bottom was still reading “normal” on my soil tester, so I didn’t want to risk creating an anaerobic environment down there. Will check again shortly and water if necessary.

Today’s pics:

Top pot was dry, so I watered it. Aside from that, I didn’t get much time today (and likely won’t before the lights go out) to do anything else, which would only be leaf tucking.

All seems to continue going well!

Going into week 5 of flower:

Canopy is looking good still. Vertical growth has pretty much stopped at this point. Some flowers never made it up to the second net, but that’s okay.

Here’s a few pics of the easy to photo buds:

The smell is just so intoxicating.
