If you're just trying to make a low and bushy plant, instead of stressing them by taking a top away, you can tie branches down when they get lanky enough and then the nodes along the branch will give you lateral growth. The growth energy of the branch will be distributed somewhat evenly across the new incoming tops.
When does thc form on auto flowers and also does it need feed to form
 
Trichomes are mostly clear with around 15% amber, so thinking of harvesting in a day or two.

Mostly clear or mostly cloudy? If they look like glass you still have time. Also make sure to look at the buds and not the leaves. Leaves will always show amber well before the buds are ready.
