First Time Grower

Well everything is still going well, and tons of new growth. Leaves developing everywhere, it's so cool to see. I feel like the guy in the back left is gonna tower over everyone else

Thanks guys, appreciate it. I've been following your advice on watering, and aside from the 3 bigger ones, the other plant's soil seems relatively moist, especially towards the bottom. The only time I watered these was when I transplanted them late Wednesday night. Is this normal at this stage in the growth process? None of the plants seem to be suffering at all, do I just let it ride?

The bottom of the pots will remain moist, until the roots get big enough to fill the pot. Right now there is nothing there to transpire the moisture out of the medium. If you haven't watered for a few days, go ahead a do it. The problem with allowing that moisture to just sit in there, is it's quickly depleted of oxygen and becomes anaerobic. Nasty bacteria grow in anarobic conditions. You want to balance not over watering your plant with flushing out the "bad" conditions in the bottom of the pot. This gets easier as the plant grows because it's better able to transpire all the moisture out of the medium. Resulting in a very light pot. This is the "feel" part of the hobby and is difficult to convey over text. You really need to give it a month or so and get that "feel" through experience. The best advice I could tell you is to error on the side of don't water, until you get more comfortable.

I see you have an anolog soil meter. If it measures moisture you could go by that too.

I think I know what you mean by that. I filled another planter 3/4 full of soil to compare it to the others just to get an idea of dry vs watered weight. I think the watering was right on time, they all seem to have responded very well.

Everything is still looking real good. But, one of the clones, the runt of the group, is starting to lag behind the the others. Anything I can do to help it out, or just keep up with what I have been doing?

There are a bunch of factors that could lead to some developing faster than others. If most of your clones are doing fine, I wouldn’t worry about the runt. Could be something a simple as it’s in a colder spot than the others.

Oy Vey.

Starting to see purple petioles on some old and some developing leaves. Ph has been 6.1-6.3ishhh, Cal/Mag? K? Really thought I supped enough but I guess not? Is it stress, maybe from under-watering? Temp has been around 78-79 degrees F, humidity 55% or so. So still trying to diagnose the issues, rechecking everything.... shit.

Don’t worry. Purple color is not that bad. Pics would help. It is normal, at least in my experience, to have some purple stems on new clones.

God dammit...

Well friends, admittedly I got a little cute and thought rather than just ask you guys for the answer like a petulant child, i decided to take the purple stems/veins issue on my self. I imagined coming back and triumphantly telling you guys how I solved it in my own and my plants grew 6 feet immediately. You guys would give me my cyber “atta boy”, and I would gain a fleeting feeling of accomplishment... but that’s not how this story goes.

So the purple stem thing was actually pretty bad. I thought it was maybe like stretch marks from growing so fast, but further reading said it was more than likely a deficiency. Ca, P, Mg, N, and K problems were the most common problems I could find. Also read about how it can mean the roots aren’t yet attached to soil. I checked ph and that was fine. So I started reading about foliar sprays and their ability to quickly fix issues at the source. So, after a long while I decided to give it a shot. I made a pretty distilled spray with my nutes to address issues and I applied it like an idiot right away... well surprisingly that worked. And by that point I had read about application of spray at night when lights go out so I decided so I did a light misting one last time. This morning they were looking ok, but these picture were right before lights out abd I can’t figure out what’s wrong with them...

^This one actually looks pretty good after spray

At first I was thinking spider mites. They leave little white dots on the leaves. Then I noticed the spots from the dried water. I would still check for mites though. Look under the leaves, you can see them with the naked eye but better to look with a magnifying glass or loupe.

Thanks guys. @Farmer P , I checked all the leaves and I didn't see any spider mites. I think I just need to settle down lol, less is more. They seem to look great this morning, purple is fading from the stalks and stems and they looking green through out

Hey guys,

Week 2 of veg is in full swing, doing my best to be hands off aside for normal waterings but still trying to be vigilant in investigating any deficiencies I might be seeing pop up. Here are some pics from a little bit ago, IDK why I decided to do two different strains, serious noob error right there. These Sunset's are some finicky ladies, and I'm still trying to get what they like best figured out. The cookies on the other hand, I am worried I may be underfeeding as they are growing fast as hell and look like they might be Fe def with those white stems at the top, maybe chlorosis?? I know, I know, a lot of this stuff might seem in consequential but I really don't want to have any of this shit pop up later down the road and fuck everything else up.
- Water pH is at 6.2-6.5ishh
- Daytime temps are in the mid to high 70's nights low 70s
- Humidity 55-65%

- both seem to have some purple/pinkish hue in the petioles and lighter green/yellowish veins in leaves.
- Can see some of the leaves on the Sunset's (the 3 thinner ones on the right) are darker. They DO NOT like foliar spray lol, too much P/K/N? I have held off watering these guys and they seem too have responded better to that
- I read Seamaiden's thread on three fingered leaves, but these guys have never left veg. Could that be from grower having them under 24/0 light and me switching them to 18/6? Or just crap genetics lol.
- The cookies, while growing, they are still showing purple in petioles and struggling leaves (see the fella on the far left) with bright green/white new growth with pinkish stems. Not enough Mg/Ca/Fe/K/N?
- The amount of small deficiencies in the Cookies makes me think they're not getting enough nutes all around while the Sunset's are probably getting too many?
- Happy to report the runt is still alive and kicking!

Here are some pics showing closer views of the issues I am seeing pop up. I have been heavily using the search function so I might be nitpicking, but I really just want to learn about what these signs all mean so I can have the best turnout possible come harvest time. And also because the last time I tied to self asses and fix it didn't go so well. So hopefully you guys can give me a better idea of if I'm on the right track or things I need to watch out for or keep an eye out for down the road. Thanks again!

- Closer view of white tips, greenish veins, purple petioles, white/pinkish stems, bright green new growth...

- Dried bottom leaves with purple petioles and green veins on cookies. Epsom foliar REALLY helped these guys

- Light colored new growth angles upwards makes me think Fe deficiency maybe?
- Closer view of purple petioles and yellowing veins

Dude you should see my Og Kush, not that I really tried to do anything about it cuz I've always gotten amazing smoke off of it, but the stem is legit pure purple. I give the thing everything it needs to succeed, I beleive its naturally the strain at this point. It's the only strain in my garden that expresses full purple stems. New growth is always bright lush green no matter what, but then fades. I've done foliars, increases CaMG, etc nothing, sometimes it's strain dependent

Mix up 2.5 ml calmag, and 2.5 ml of Epsom salt in a one gallon. Shake up and put into a spray bottle. I used to use that on my soil grows and never had issues with purpling. Make sure you PH your foliar water to 5.8-6.0

Thanks Rhino! It doesn't appear to be negatively impacting anything at all, so I'll just let it ride. I ordered up some calmag, it should be here tomorrow. Kinda feel dumb for not having any on hand after seeing just about everyone ends using it at some point lol. I'm starting to see some roots showing at the bottom of all the pots now tho, at what point would i switch from the planter to 5 gallon pots? Do you guys like smart pots or does it not make a huge difference?

Almost through week 2 of veg! Looks like it's time to upgrade pot sizes as things are starting to get a little crowded in there. $ of them are growing very well (2 SS, 2 DSC), then there are three that are kinda lagging behind. Will maybe check roots to see if they are bound.
