Thanks for the reply! Yes, this photo was taken just after giving it the hydrogen peroxide water.

I do think you're right that I have been keeping it too wet, I was / am just really afraid of letting it die of thirst! The peat pellet is in a tray with a drainage hole so it's not sitting in water, but I don't think I am letting it dry out enough and watering / misting with spray bottle too often. I'll leave it alone now for a few days. Thanks again!

I'm trying! Last night in the middle of the night the humidifier hose somehow slumped and filled with water and stopped humidifying for a few hours. Only noticed bc I had to get up to pee and compulsively checked my ac infinity app
