Banana manna ey :) haven't heard of it per say, but i so use pineapple rush which is also supposed to enhance sugars, flavours and aromas :) put it this way, i'm auto-flushing my girl now, and all i can smell is pineapple and strong skunkAs an alternative route, I swear by Banana Manna for resin, flavor, and aroma. The combo with UVB could be nice. How does the UVB compare to the use of MH for this same purpose during flower?

I think due to the design of the reflector is why is changes the spread and doubles the UVB output and directs the light downwards, as UVB tends to disperse highly due to the irregularity of the UVB Spectrum. Yes the lightspread is minimal, but i wasn't looking to fill my whole are with UVB exposure. When you say the smoke is like a lesser form of hash, i'd say you are spot on, and you won't want to smoke the UVB blend ALL the time. trust me. you will just sleep and sleep and sleep. I guarantee it changes the effect to more of an opiate like buzz, really dumbed down if you know what i mean. My UVB exposed buds stay in their own jar, i can clearly see the difference on the outside
was thinkin another 4 weeks or so :pYou gonna be cutting her down soon?

In that same research on the thread that I pointed the link to, they discussed UVA- and found that it didn't seem to help much, if at all. The UVB was definitely the active band. UVA isn't as intense as UVB is, and the plant wouldn't need to defend itself against them under normal conditions. Relatively high levels of UVB, on the other hand, do occur naturally in the plants' natural environment; high in the mountains!
My own pet theory is that indicas are more frosty for this reason, and are also more likely to be responsive to this technique than lowland races like sativas, which get somewhat less due to being shielded better by the atmosphere above them.
Reflectors like these are essential to aiming the light where it's intended. The distance means it's the only practical way to use flourescents. I'm hoping that 4 x 50w cfls = 200w at 30" above the canopy will be enough over a 4x4 area?
lol, correct :) i have the lamp slightly on the front row, left hand corner. Larger Colas look less frosty, they are right under the HPS. They seem to grow Fatter Calyxs toward the tips of the colas, almost fingernail size, and really juicy, bump them and they fill the room with skunkinessSo am I to guess that the shots of the super snowy budlets are under the UVB and the more modestly frosted ones are from elsewhere?
I just love your style of gardening- turning out one exquisite not-so-small gem of a plant after another...
nah, chop this weekend, prob sunday night i'll keep an eye on things, very close indeed4 weeks left huh, they`ll be wearing much more flesh by then:D
I haven't seen these 50 watt types ?! I would still think the UVB needs to be within 12 inches to be effective. At 30 inches i don't think they would have enough intense spectrum, after reading about how the UVB wavelength travels in small waves, rather UVA travels in straight long wavelengths....
I would have them at 12 inches, with the right reflectors, maybe a slightly wider brim perhaps? But I'm no expert in lighting that's for sure.
Do you have a link to these 50 watt cfl's with UVB?
a couple of my mates hang some 26 watters down like me, but only a couple of lights in a big big room, it's a perso thing for a few guys, so no many needed. 26 watts seem to be the go for being able to have them at optimum distance, without any burning. Geez i feel like snippin a cola off. They look soooooo good!Looks like I got foxed by a brand name. 'Zilla' brand lighting offers a 'desert 50' group of CFL bulbs... the largest of which is 26w. It's so named due to the tartgeted 50uw/cm2 delivery of UVB rays to pet lizards. At one point last night I'd hit a site that offered the bulbs in case prices, but I can't seem to find it again.

they sound awesome! now. getting hold of them may be the had part :p i think they would run alot hotter also, something to consider if already using 1000 HPSI'm trying to cover a larger area. I also found another site selling a different type of UVB lamp; this goes in the 'why didn't I think of that?' category; Reptile UV.com. You'll notice when digging around on this site that their signature item is a 60 watt UVA/UVB emitting... mercury vapor HID lamp. Funny how what's old and discredited comes back around, huh? These guys run more efficiently than the CFLs, apparently outlast the CFLs drastically (I read the cfl was only good for 6-12 months) and provide the high levels of UVB necessary to hang these higher up above the canopy.
this is what their high uvb lamps say.....
now i found the right one scratch that.....Our 60-watt EB Par-38 Narrow Flood Lamp produces
Our 60-watt EB Par-38 Narrow Flood Lamp produces dynamic UVA and UVB, has a significantly reduced decay rate, and comes equipped with a long-life external ballast that reduces bulb failures. This Mac Industries/Westron Lighting original design is found nowhere else in the world! s Mac Industries/Westron Lighting original design is found nowhere else in the world!
The Mega-Ray® EB flood is a 60-watt EB Par-38 True Frosted Flood Lamp, the only one of its kind in the world. A true flood lamp, it will disperse usable UVB in a 30" circumference at a 20" distance. sounds great me, i would need a 120volt-240 converter
daaaamn your good :p and quick! ok ok you the man! 1 thing that still gets me a bit, the are a flood lamp type, and because of the spectrum, they alone WILL create some heat, i'm guessing atleast a 3-5 degree temp rise per bulb, i'm getting a 3 degree temp rise alone with my CFL!!!!??? so this will have to be considered, but all in all i think you are honestly on to something. In a setup like mine, maybe 2 lamps would be ideal, both in opposite corners. maybe 1 on a oscillating fan perhaps as a light mover :)On the site, they offer the kits with 60w digital ballasts in both 120 and 240v. ;) Fresh out of excuses now! lol Here's the link to the euro kit, available for $110.00: Mega-Ray Zoo EB 60 watt Lamp Kit - 220-240 Volt
They warn that the output feels cool to the reptiles so pair it with a heat lamp. Not sure if that means the lamp itself runs cool or not, but a decent socket and you'd be in business!
HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY HAPPY HAPPY :)Awesome, man very good :) Always when i visit your journal i'm filled with joy and happiness !!
LOL :) i dunno bout that matie ;) you are growing some spectacular Frosticles i must say!! these days its far and beyond to find a killer frosty strain!! and when you get something that excites every cell in your body from the smell alone , then you know you're on to a sure keeper!! oooohhhh the pineapple smell, is just divine. the small sample nug i snipped, i'll take a pic shortly, the frost is amazing, still juicily wet but man. the smell is crazy, i've never grown anything so sticky and so aromatic. and this was an early bud!! that wasn't getting any light!!!!??? ok i'll take a snap. give me 15 minutes :p
